Are those tents in the parking lot permanent now? Where do people park?
Most students just uber or walk to tigerland now. Also, to answer the OP's question yes college bars are still popular. Just drive by Fred's on a gameday morning and there will already be a line of people down Nicholson waiting for early bands so they can go to the bar after the game (or actually at halftime).

quote:same. I worked at shanahans and we went to quills, fat Harry’s, miss maes, F&M, rendon inn, Bruno’s, madigans, etc. no better time ever to be a college student than New Orleans in the mid 80s
the drinking age was 18
21 to drink killed them

I didn't have enough money to go out drinking every single night, which is a good thing or I never would have graduated. I had a friend who did. He finally finished up his degree in his 30's.
On weekends, I tended to go to house parties more often than bars, or go to a bar for a little while then to the house party, where some people would house party for a while then go out to the bar. House parties had two shifts.

There are a shite ton of them in Athens. Different vibes, though. Nothing like being propositioned by a couple of very drunk college girls while my son and I were walking to the stadium. His eyes were opened

Has been my choice since ‘81, still wear to this day…

There wasn’t shite else to do back in the day. The question wasn’t “Wanna go to the bar?” It was “Which bar are we going to tonight?”
And “Which bar are we going to first tonight?”

And that was usually a question that came out at 11pm.

Easy, what are the specials? Drinkin w/Lincoln, Nickel Beer, Beat the Clock. Can't remember what it was called but The Library had a good one on Tues night.
Someone said college in the 80's was great. So was high school.

I wouldn't know but it seems to reason that they aren't. Too many do's and don't in order to have any fun.

When I was at LSU in the 2010s, Bogies and Freds were still very much alive. Shoulder to shoulder packed every Thursday and Saturday then. Game Days, it'd take 15 minutes to walk 150 ft through a crowd at those bars.

I was at LSU in the 80's/early 90's and I owned a great bar out there.
We had so much fun and it was relatively safe.
Then all the bars went Section 8 in the mid 90's and it's been downhill ever since.
I know... here come the down votes. But I speak the truth.

Yall wouldn’t believe how demoralized our young people are, especially the young men.
You couldn’t stop me from drinking beer and chasing skirt unless you threw me in jail when I was young. I was horny and thirsty and so was every single swinging dick I knew at Texas.

You also had blowouts on Fraternity bid night with beer trucks on the front lawns.
Murhpy's had quarter beer night on Tuesdays
$1 dollar calls on Wednesday night
Fred's had dollar juice drinks on Thursdays from 4-9
Sport's had quarter shot and 5.00 pitchers.
Liquor companies would have ridiculous promotions for stuff like Goldschlager....and stuff you would not know about like if the bought a case of Old Forrester 1 liter, they would get 9 free. Skol Vodka was like $5.00 a liter
Plus drinking age does not change until 1987 and there were grandfather clauses

My daughter lives at home, but claims Murphy's as her residence.

Library had a good Friday special as well
Then,.........there was The Happy Note. $2.00 mixed drinks with Solo sized cups.....and Old Crow was the house pour
Bengal had good deals as well
Tiger had steady business
Foxy Sanders found a workaround on the law in the late 80s and although the drinking age was 21, it was unenforceable anutil about 1994 -5.....but by then I had grown up got a real job and moved away.
I worked at a Tigerland bar.....so drinks were basically free....at least the beer.
