Plus they last too long…my niece just graduated from a tiny private school with a graduating class of 13 people. The graduation lasted an hour and 45 minutes.
fricking this. Daughter’s college graduation lasted 2 hours and 45 minutes and didn’t even have a keynote speaker. I think mine was just over an hour and had a keynote speaker.

Do they not have separate ceremonies at the school for the various colleges? (i.e. college of business, college of communications, etc.)

My grand daughter graduated from a high school in Mississippi, They announced at the beginning that anyone creating an outburst would be escorted out of the stadium. Worked quite well but one mother had to blow an airhorn and was promptly escorted out. Not a peep from anyone else. Start to finish in one hour.

My wife got mad at me when I laughed and said "are ya fricking kidding me" to her talking about us going to our nephew's Pre-K graduation. I legitimately thought she was joking.

My kids' school district does it right
No Kindergarten Graduation (despite local mom facebook groups bitching about it every year)
5th grade "Moving Up" ceremony. No regalia, just nice dress.
Graduation ceremony for seniors. All faculty in regalia. Students have cords for athletics, clubs, honors, etc. Honors (90+ GPA) and High Honors (95+) announced and noted in program.
Students not allowed to call undue attention to themselves. Spectators creating disturbance are escorted out.
My wife is faculty so Ive been to a bunch of these. Ive witnessed one student doing a flip and he was denied his diploma on stage. It was a big deal.

The worst thing about graduation in college is all those entitled department chairs have to get up and show everybody how they’re so smart and give a 10 minute speech nobody gives two shits about

I feel like in the past stuff like Kindergarten and 8th grade promotion (it's NOT A GRADUATION and I'll stand by that) were limited to just parents and/or grandparents attending. Not the whole damn family.

Yes. This was just her college. Problem was they included Doctoral and Masters grads also. Those used to be separate ceremonies.

Out of hand? I’m a yes.

We homeschool. We have our second graduating high school for the second year in a row. I always thought it would be strange not having a graduation ceremony but it is awesome. We just do a big party and cook BBQ for friends and family. Haven't missed those long boring ceremonies at all.

Isn’t Pre-K just daycare?
But for different reasons. He's the last one we had in daycare. Getting that pay raise

You sure that's not something your state did in pursuit of federal funding?
quote:
The states understand all too well how to game the system — not just in this area but in health care and all the other areas as well — and they realize that if they simply lower their standards, then they could say, “Hey, we met our goal and we get our funding, and we don’t have any of the additional restrictions.” So NCLB provided an incentive for states who once had a good standard to lower that down much lower.

As a whole the human race has regressed on how to properly act in large groups! All it takes is a few small groups inside of the large group to act out for others to latch on a continue the craziness… it’s all about accountability!

I didn't know 6th grade graduation was a thing until this year. When I was young, I guess we had a kindergarten graduation, then there was 8th grade.. It was called... I think crossover. It wasn't that big of a deal.
The middle school/junior high I went to, there were about 4 or 5 different high schools that different people were going to so I think there was a small ceremony. Then there was HS. I was excited about graduating because of the parties, ext.. But it just felt like something you did.. It wasn't really a big deal to me.
Today, there is all kind of shite. I think there is an award that for anything. There is an award if you don't miss a day of school. An award for those who only missed 1 to 3 days, an award for those who only missed 4-6 days (I don't know if that's a real award, but there are so many categories.
When I was in school, you had the smart kids, everyone else.. The the special kids who probably colored their own award before it was given to them. And it was okay. I couldn't imagine my dad taking off of work to come watch me get some award, now these kids have parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles attending these things.
I don't want to sound like I am exaggerating, but they really do give these kids awards for everything. And these kids think they should be rewarded for everything they do.

I went to a college graduation last week. Let's just say that the family & friends of students who had two capital letters &/or punctuation marks in their first names were very colorful in their applause.

My favorite part is when they ask people to hold their applause until the end. Cmon, you just challenged the very essence of a certain subculture present. What do you expect?
My high school kid didn’t have a great freshman year, much better this year.
He was sitting beside me, after hearing the outbursts for 30 minutes I told him that if he graduated in the top of his class he would actually get to hear his name called, graduate with the rest and it’s 50/50 if they scream over your announcement.
