This place is the armpit of America. I drove through this place heading to/from Florida. ANyone else been through there?

You should check it our on Google street view. It is far worse today than anything you will find online. Run down trailers and houses, unmowed yards, and everyone was outside or walking the street.

Wiki

quote:

In his 2015 travel book entitled Deep South: Four Seasons on Back Roads, author Paul Theroux describes it as a "ghost town."

quote:

The racial makeup of the town was 95.03% African American, 4.80% White and 0.18% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.18% of the population.

36.1% had a female householder with no husband present

13.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older

Half the town is single women or old folks.

yep, on both sides of the river in all 3 states.

OP obviously has not traveled the fine towns of the Arky delta, one of which has the distinction of being the poorest town in the USA.

The cost of living is low there. They have cheap values on real estate. Nothing is for sale there. The last real estate that sold there was a vacant lot in 2017. It went for $1200.

If you want to see the lowdown on the delta, take Amtrak between Jackson and Memphis sometime. The tracks seem to consistently run through the nastiest, most rundown part of every town.

I spent a week in Marvell, AR one time. Talk about an armpit. And really it wasn't even that bad compared to other towns around there.

I admit Ive never laid eyes on majority of Arkansas having never ventured north of i40 driving, but if we talking about depressed shite hole podunk towns, Id throw some of the towns in North Central SC near the NC border

Was that your first time in the ARKLAMISS Delta? And did you sleep through the 25 other shite holes that you had to go through to get to Arcola?

Bishopville, SC has one of the lowest median incomes of any municipality in the country. However, the town itself doesn't actually look too terrible. You can just tell that at one point in its history, the town was probably much more alive.

Last time I was in SC I came across a couple Video stores where old people were in there renting movies and buying popcorn for the weekend. Several times I've ended up getting gas from the old time pumps that looked more like something American Pickers would try to restore and flip. Up around the Sandhills

That entire region of the state looks like that. Drive through cruger or tchula. Those are even worse.

There was a grocery store there. It closed down about 4 months ago due to a fire.

The only gas station within about 6 miles is closed, due to a fire.

There is a restaurant/diner about 6 miles away.

On the edge of town is a small river. It looks like it would have catfish.

You say that like there's any city where the train tracks run right through the middle of the country club and the high dollar neighborhood.
