Just to reinforce what we already know.

An estimated 45.3 percent of American households — roughly 77.5 million — will pay no federal individual income tax, according to data for the 2015 tax year from the Tax Policy Center, a nonpartisan Washington-based research group. (Note that this does not necessarily mean they won’t owe their states income tax.)
quote:
On average, those in the bottom 40 percent of the income spectrum end up getting money from the government. Meanwhile, the richest 20 percent of Americans, by far, pay the most in income taxes, forking over nearly 87 percent of all the income tax collected by Uncle Sam.
The top 1 percent of Americans, who have an average income of more than $2.1 million, pay 43.6 percent of all the federal individual income tax in the US; the top 0.1 percent — just 115,000 households, whose average income is more than $9.4 million — pay more than 20 percent of it.
Just to reinforce what we already know.

It pisses me off that I paid the feds $25k last year and that still wasn't enough

Meh, to be fair I don't care either.
I already filed my taxes and got my refund. It seems like every other year we either get a big refund or a large tax bill. Still working on that dual income tax scenario thing.

The best thing mitt Romney ever said ended up hurting him more than anything else. And it's only going to get worse.

This statement makes it seem "less" of an issue than it is. Many in the top 1% do not make close to 2.1 million a year, yet they are helping pay that 43.6% of all taxes.

There should not be any getting money from the government. If you have no income and receive benefits for everything then you pay nothing and get nothing. If you make under x then you get back what you paid in.
There should not be a negative number i.e. Person X pays $500, so the government refunds person x $3000 using $2500 of person y's tax payment to do so.

I remember teaching in the MS Delta and inner-city Memphis and every April kids started coming into school with $200 Nikes and Jordans, etc. Then, they all got free lunches and breakfasts and still didn't have a pencil. fricking pissed me off.

The problem isn't the high end pays the most taxes, the problem is that range just above minimum wage.
Too many can basically do little to nothing, get tax credits, etc. And if you were to get a raise, you'd lose all your credits. So, essentially have no incentive to move up. Just sit on your arse and get the same thing as working 40 hours a week for the whole year.
Most companies have a major problem with turnover at those low wages for this reason.

These are the people that should really be pissed but it's the same 60k millionaires that bitch about welfare and pays a few thousand a year that you hear the most

I lot of them care - because they've already gotten money back.
You don't EITC, baw?

I know someone who spent last year in an opiate haze, worked for only a few months of the year, lives rent free with parents, wife, and kids, made about $15,000-$23,000, and received a $9,000 refund. I am disgusted by it, absolutely disgusted.

That's what East Coast Band is talking about and it's crazy. They know if they make more than X that they won't qualify for EIC. Therefore, they don't work past earning X. It's all backward, and just like my public education thread, I'm exhausted with it all.
