Since its introduction over 20 years ago, iPod has captivated users all over the world who love the ability to take their music with them on the go. Today, the experience of taking one’s music library out into the world has been integrated across Apple’s product line — from iPhone and Apple Watch to iPad and Mac — along with access to more than 90 million songs and over 30,000 playlists available via Apple Music.
“Music has always been part of our core at Apple, and bringing it to hundreds of millions of users in the way iPod did impacted more than just the music industry — it also redefined how music is discovered, listened to, and shared,” said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. “Today, the spirit of iPod lives on. We’ve integrated an incredible music experience across all of our products, from the iPhone to the Apple Watch to HomePod mini, and across Mac, iPad, and Apple TV. And Apple Music delivers industry-leading sound quality with support for spatial audio — there’s no better way to enjoy, discover, and experience music.”
The original iPod, introduced on October 23, 2001, was the first MP3 player to pack a mind-blowing 1,000 songs and a 10-hour battery into a stunning 6.5-ounce package.
iPod mini, introduced on February 20, 2004, brought everything users loved about iPod into a smaller design at just 3.6 ounces.
iPod nano (2nd generation), introduced on September 25, 2006, offered a thin design, a bright color display, six stylish colors, and up to 24 hours of battery life, and put up to 2,000 songs in users’ pockets.
iPod touch, first introduced on September 5, 2007, brought the revolutionary Multi-Touch interface that made iPhone a hit to iPod with a gorgeous 3.5-inch widescreen display.
iPod nano (7th generation), introduced on September 12, 2012, was the thinnest iPod to date at just 5.4mm and featured a 2.5-inch Multi-Touch display.
iPod shuffle (4th generation), introduced on July 15, 2015, offered a sleek design with up to 15 hours of battery life, 2GB of storage good for hundreds of songs, and a VoiceOver button to hear a song title, playlist name, or battery status.
iPod touch (7th generation), introduced on May 28, 2019, features the A10 Fusion chip, enabling immersive augmented reality experiences and Group FaceTime, along with 256GB of storage.

Out of the 12 they sold, I bet at least 8 still work.

I too got my first iPod around 2006.. while i use my phone now for music when working out or whatever, i have to say that that first iPod was a game changer.. just to be able to have access to thousands of songs on one small device, after previously having to haul around a Walkman with cassettes or CDs.. i still marvel at it, and i always said the iPod was the best money i ever spent, considering the hours of enjoyment and convenience i got out of it .

Well damn. I was going to get my son an iPod touch to play video games on. Guess I’ll just have to put him in travel ball

How do you guys load songs on to it? Does iTunes still exist?

Got a Nano for Christmas in 06… I think I still have it somewhere. Obviously need to hang on to it for the sake of having a collector’s item.

I've never put any music on my phone because the iPod was so great. I just never felt the need. Then music apps came along and made putting music on my phone even more pointless. I'll still use my iPod if we're somewhere with bad reception like an LSU tailgate.

I had one of the 12 they sold. It actually was a solid device, Microsoft was just way way too late to the game.

I still use my Shuffle every now and then. Love how compact it is. I’d never get rid of it if it had Bluetooth. I haven’t added music to it in ages though. Still just has 3 or 4 Phish shows on it.

I don't know about being too late. They were on the market relatively early. That was just at the real start of the Apple weirdos growing in number and having to have anything with Apple on it.
The girl I was dating at the time got an ipod for her birthday. After that I wanted one, so I went to look at them. For less money I bought a Zune with much more storage and it didn't rely on iTunes in any way. All I needed was a file. Every single CD I had at the time fit on the Zune and I had plenty of storage to spare.

A-ha! I see at least part of the problem.

I still have iTunes on my phone, i only know that because sometimes it’ll accidentally start to play at a bad time lol… But for my music, i have the Sirius/XM satellite app on my phone.. it has a million different music channels , similar to Pandora or Spotify- but it also has a bunch of different sports channels, espn, Fox et al.. a bunch of Political talk channels for every leaning, stand up comedy, Howard Stern and i only pay like $6 a month for it on my phone and in my car .
