I always thought that in order for a protest to be remotely effective, there needs to be an audience. An effectively planned protest takes place at a location where there is a "forced audience". For example, a protest of a law that is thought to be unfair would take place at or near the entrance to the workplace of all the lawmakers, such as a State Capital building. However, there is one more very important aspect of an effective protest and that is TIMING.
