Don't think they have to worry about any Kardashians in Jackson MS using all the water.

Yes the water system is failing because of someone who's been the mayor for a few year, sounds about republican. No mention of how a republican ran state has a failed water system in it's capital system that's been neglected for the last 75 years. All blaming, no accountability.

Isn't there a giant arse reservoir just north of Jackson?
What's wrong with that?

lol. then answer me this:

what is the current Democrat leadership doing about it? besides complaining and pointing fingers?
what actions are currently under way to permanently resolve the issues?
is this what leadership looks like to you?

Rez is fine. The water treatment plant for the water coming out of the Rez has been neglected for quite some time.

LOL imagine blaming this on the republican ran state. People like this are allowed to vote, which is why we have the leadership we have in jackson

The state tried to do something about it in 2016. I'm sure whatever funds were provided for it were long ago siphoned off by the city leaders

MSDH and EPA identified many of the issues in 2016. What has changed today "is the failure of the O.B. Curtis facility." He said orders issued in 2016 "have not been adhered to."

This is all you need to know about him.

New Afrika

It looks like he's doing his best to make Jackson the New Afrika. Murders, rapes, crimes, corruption, they even have a water issue now to go along with it. MLK has got to be proud.

It would take prolly 350k to even consider moving into that area. What's weird is the people that live in and around Jackson including the burbs especially Madison think are snooty AF. They think they live in God's country. shite man I'd rather live in the hood of BR or Nola than Jackson metro including the burbs. The only redeeming quality for that area is it is kinda close to the beach if that is your thing.
Take LSU out of BR and it's basically Jackson or Montgomery, but worse.

Don't disagree.

But shithole that it is, one thing BR has ALWAYS been able to hold its head up high about is drinking water. I have yet to visit a place with better drinking water than BR

Dateline: June 2021

Jackson residents voted overwhelmingly for incumbent Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba on Tuesday, securing the 38-year-old another four years as the capital city's leader.

Lumumba beat out four challengers in the race by a wide margin, receiving 13,160 votes, or over 69% of the total vote, according to Tuesday evening's unofficial results from the Hinds County courthouse.

Lumumba will officially begin his second term on July 1.

"I want to thank everyone who was part of the process and reaffirm the commitment we have," Lumumba said shortly after the results came in. "We aren't satisfied. It's only a start. We want to build a movement that represents all of us."

Lumumba bested Republican challenger Jason Wells, and three Independent candidates, Les Tannehill, Charlotte Reeves and Shafeqah "Big Mama" Lodree.

Lumumba, in the 2017 general election, secured nearly 93% of the vote after beating several high-profile candidates, including former Mayor Tony Yarber, state Sen. John Hohrn and Hinds County Supervisor Robert Graham in the Democratic primary.

This time around, Lumumba sailed to victory in the citywide primary elections, easily securing nearly 70% of the total vote.

First term highlights to build on

In his campaign, Lumumba listed several accomplishments from his first term, including an aggressive approach to tackling infrastructure, where the mayor says more roads have been paved in the last two years than the previous 10 years combined. Faced with furloughs when he came into office, Lumumba has worked to increase the wages of all city workers. His administration recently announced workers on the city payroll will now receive free health insurance.

He recouped the full amount of an ill-fated $89 million water contract with the city that led to widespread billing issues and has helped bring millions of dollars to Jackson through grants and foundations.

The last White mayor of Jackson served from 89-97, and he was a Democrat. The last Republican mayor served from 1977-1989...At the very least, the two mayors prior to him were Democrats and served, combined, from 1949 to 1977.

They blew through that $89 million. $30 million of it went to his lawyer friends in Birmingham. Then they used some of to plug a hole in the water/sewer department. Ten years ago the water/sewer made $7 million a year. Now it loses $10 to $20 million per year. The rest went to pay down some of the bonds used to finance the project that created the settlement in the first place.

Did I mention he managed to snag himself a brand new Porsche shortly after the settlement?
