Why did you go with the 500 over the 800?

Bought a house with a Bosch, not sure what model or how old, but it is whisper quiet. Have a pretty open floorplan and my couch probably isn't 10 feet from it and I never hear it. If I have a complaint is that the wash cycle is long, like 90 minutes or so. I could say that about all of them though. I mean seriously it ought take maybe 20 minutes tops to wash dishes.

We have the top of the line Bosch and it cleans great and you can barely hear it, but dont expect it to dry plastic....even with jet dry.
We had to have our dryer repaired and I was asking the repair man about dishwashers. He said anything built after 2007 went high efficiency and cant dry like the old school washers.

We bought a Bosch a little over a year ago at a scratch & dent place for like 40% regular retail price. I don't know which series it is, but I don't think it has either of those features. We've never had a problem with it not drying anything, including plastic pieces, though. And it is very quiet. We've been happy with it.

Just bought the 800 yesterday! Getting kitchen remodel. Looking at possibly getting a Bosch gas range to match. Any recs on it?

I can't comment on Bosch but I do have a GE stainless that I really really like.
I just hopped in this thread to make a comment on the drying plastics.
We run a large load of Ikea plates/cups every night due to kids. We run the dishwasher early enough that it finishes before bedtime and leave all drying settings disabled. We have a whole home filtration system so we do not use jet dry or any other rinse agent.
What we do is open the dishwasher and pull the racks out when we go to bed. The next morning, everything is completely dry and spotless.
Maybe this will help someone.

quote:Have had a Bosch for 4 years now. It's been great. Even greater now that Cascade has the pods with the jet dry in them.
Bosch is awesome. Use the jet dry

Bosch doesn't use a heating element in tub like most machines. Even the FP dish drawers the OP has now has a heating plate.
Instead inside the circulation motor is a heating element. When in dry the Bosch moves hot air in the machine and forces steam out a vent that opens by way of a wax motor.
With Bosch you have to use jet dry and your plastics may not dry all the way.
Though all dishwashers now are worse at drying they don't have the huge calrod heaters like they used to.

I just put in a new one in the house. The thing is so quiet it has a light that shows on the ground to let you know it is running. We did have some issues with it new and took about three weeks to fix because we did not have a local Bosch repair guy but the machine is great

Bosch dishwashers are super quiet, and are amazing at cleaning. The one I have does not have a "drying cycle"...so you have to let things sit for quite a while to dry. It sounds like the newer ones may be addressing this. That is the ONLY drawback for a Bosch.

Bought our Bosch a few months ago and normally it's pretty quiet. Shortly after getting it, though, we've noticed a high pitch sound when it seems to be rinsing the dishes. Maybe a line was pinched during install?

We recently replaced our dishwasher. Considered the Bosch units, but my wife didn't want to have to deal with cleaning the filters.
We went with KitchenAid - highly rated by Consumer Reports and has self-cleaning filter.
Ours is the quietest dishwasher we have ever owned. And it cleans better than any of our previous dishwashers.
eta: When I say the KitchenAid is quiet, I mean that you can stand 5 feet away and not hear it running.

I just had a SHXM78Z55N installed 2 weeks ago and love it. We always use The crystal dry setting and it does well, it’s the feature that pushed us to the 800 series.
Eta: I paid $999, so wait for a Black Friday sale. I also suggest Lowe’s for purchase and install. They often have an install rebate and don’t charge tax for “professionally installed home improvements.”
