re: Doing a Chernobyl rewatch

I just started my first watch of this series after seeing a clip on TikTok. Just finished the second episode and....spoilers...

When the flashlights go out on those three guys, and they're down there radiating to death, unable to accomplish their mission, knowing they're going to die anyway in the dark (I'm assuming). I hope episode 3 shows that one of these guys has some kind of back-up light, or a flare, but holy hell what an awful way to go. I'm hooked.
I'm going to speculate that it was a bird strike upon take off that took out both engines.
I would start by asking him to read:

Rich Dad, Poor Dad
The Little Book of Common Sense Investing
My two cents. We used to have normal cross dressers who everyone knew were men, but they liked to dress up as woman and no one cared, and they didn't pretend they were ACTUAL women. Ru-Paul is a good example.

When they crossed the line to believing they are actually women, and then wanting to cancel people who didn't participate in their fantasy, that's when they lost my support.

Here's my revised thinking, though. If someone born a biological male has surgery to remove their male sex organs and have female sex organs installed, then that earns the right for me to call them a woman. I may not believe they are an actual woman (in the genetic sense), but chopping off your unit is a level of commitment that I think warrants changing a "sir" to a "ma'am".

If you're just wearing a dress and a wig and haven't had bottom surgery, then you are still very much a dude in every sense, and shouldn't be offended when people refer to you as such.

To echo what others have said, I don't think you get into rentals to necessarily beat your other investments. 17% may not continue, but it's very passive if you're into index funds.

Part of what I didn't see you address is your child situation. I'm looking into buying a property to AirBnd, but I have to get my kids through college first. Once they're off the "payroll", then my expenses go down and I can afford to take a little more risk.

At 65, you're going to have $188k/year in retirement income (assuming 4% withdrawal rate) from just your pensions and 401ks alone. I don't know how that compares to your current income, but that seems like plenty to me to live comfortably.

I think the biggest reason I've seen for getting into real estate for others in your situation is 1) to diversify their investments and 2) because it sounds fun. I'd want to buy one of the properties we currently stay at each year in Tennessee because I'd get to stay there for free once a year, and it sounds like it would be a fun "old person job" as my daughter calls it.

Financially, I don't see that you HAVE TO get into real estate, but if it's just you and your wife and you can afford to take a little risk, you might just enjoy the diversification (in both your finances and in your day-to-day activities of managing it). Just my two cents.

After seeing how well Philly's line did this season and given they were the largest OL in the league, I'm all in favor of continuing to draft giants. Once your line crumbles, so does the offense.
I use a combination of Bank of Oklahoma and Fidelity. The only reason I still have the BOK account is because my mortgage is auto-drafted from my checking there and I get like a .25% reduction in my rate. Once the mortgage is paid off, though, I'd go fully into Fidelity's cash management account. Same as others have mentioned here with the reimbursement of ATM fees. Just to have everything in one place with my retirement accounts and other investments - that's what I'd do.

I have some VOO and QQQ. If you're going to be a long-term investor and like QQQ, look into QQQM. Exact same fund but since it's not traded as much, the expense ratio is a tad lower.

The $7000 will be non taxed income from the beginning so a Roth makes great sense.

Not sure I understand this comment about non-taxed income from the beginning. The contributions to ROTH are made after-tax. Are you saying that you could potentially make a pre-tax contribution but think tax rates will be higher in the future, so you'd rather pay the tax now versus waiting until you're retirement age? If not, then maybe a traditional IRA would be better.
Removing political opponents from the ballot...and Republicans are the threat to democracy?
I just think it's funny that the Dems charge Trump with being a "threat to democracy", yet the same Dems are the ones removing their opponent's name from the ballot. Not allowing people to vote for their preferred candidate is the actual threat to democracy.

I also think it's funny that the same people that accuse the Right of loving guns more than the lives of innocent children killed in school shootings also call Jan 6th a failed insurrection. If it was an actual insurrection, don't you think those gun-loving citizens would have brought those guns with them and actually used them on that fateful day?

Mouthwash in some order before brushing. You don't wash your mouth out after brushing because you want the fluoride in your mouth for your teeth. Just spit out extra and keep rest of paste in.
This is what I've heard as well. The consensus on here is that mouthwash should come last, and I did floss, brush, mouthwash for the longest time. But then I heard that you shouldn't use mouthwash last because you're washing away the layer of fluoride you've just applied by brushing.
In RDR2, I wanted to play the good role, but all the fun side stuff required me to be evil. I'm just sitting there grilling some meat at my camp in the middle of a field and a wagon comes by with a lady in the back screaming for help. Let's go see what that is. Of course she's a criminal and I get dinged for killing the two guys driving the wagon. I could be "good" and ignore these random events, but then I wouldn't be playing the game. I did drop that guy off the cliff near the very beginning because I didn't want him to rat me out. That was more self-preservation than being "evil"...ok, I miss RDR2...looking forward to Starfield.
What's sad is they call Trump all these names because of what he said during a secretly taped private conversation where he was most likely making stuff up to sound cool...and yet when Biden actual does this stuff and it's documented on camera....silence.
I'm looking to get back into Fantasy Baseball after sitting out since COVID. I'm interested in taking over for an inactive manager in a keeper league and trying to revive the team. Please let me know if you need a manager like that in your league. Thanks!

“Her face was just covered in blood. He hit her with something really hard, and then he called me on Facetime..."
Outside of how horrible this person is and how they definitely deserve to die for this...

Presumably, he takes her phone, gets her passcode to unlock the phone, then leaves with his phone, her phone, and their daughter...
So how does he FaceTime her when he has her phone?

What if only 1 parent was a descendant of a slave or 1 parent was 1/2 descendant, do you still get the same amount of money?

What if your descendants came to America after slavery do you still get money?
Excellent questions. If these do become requirements to get paid, it would highlight another hypocrisy of the left. If you require someone's ID to vote, then you're a racist because "obviously" blacks can't get IDs. BUT, how do you prove that you are descended from slaves without not only an ID, but some form of genealogical research?

Agree with everyone above. Filed my taxes not knowing I was going to even get a K-1, then amended by return when I received it. Well, that put me in the back of the line to get my refund. It didn't show up for 10 months, but at least they included some interest.

The stock was even in tax deferred account, but it didn't matter. Even though the distributions were less than $1k, I still had to include it in my return.

Sold the stock and bought an ETF that included a large position in that stock, but without the K-1 nightmare.
I thought it was absurd that they would drop the firearm enhancement to the charge considering the manslaughter was made possible by a firearm, but then I found in the article that the reason they're dropping the firearm enhancement is because they changed the statute well after the incident took place.
quote:

“The prosecutors in this case have committed an unconstitutional and elementary legal error by charging Mr. Baldwin under a statute that did not exist on the date of the accident,” said Baldwin’s defense team in a motion filed in New Mexico court on February 10. “It thus appears that the government intended to charge the current version of the firearm enhancement statute, which was not enacted until May 18, 2022, seven months after the accident,” the filing went on to say.
