Little early for wrestling eh?

Might just be scarred by my sheltered childhood. If he likes it, then good for you for taking him

i went to a wwe event years ago, it was pretty entertaining, imo

I don't watch anymore but if they are in the area and can get some friends to go and get lower level/floor seats for live events and drink it is pretty damn fun and entertaining.

Actually upset I couldn't make WM this year, missed it in Houston and now New Orleans.

I don't know but he likes it and they've really made it a little more kid friendly lately. Way more than the attitude era.

is it really worrying?

or is it just saying that you do not understand the appeal of bad, scripted entertainment?

it is the same as saying how you cannot understand how someone enjoys watching Honey Boo Boo.

How's it any different than anything else. Everything on television is scripted to a certain degree.

FWIW this was the highest grossing event in the history of the Superdome. Consider that

I find the whole thing funny. Watched when i was a kid and still occasionally leave it on for a few minutes when im channel surfing and I see it. I never religiously watch it like when I was a kid. But it brings back the memories and makes me laugh.

I find it funny that people that watch Duck Dynasty and all those other garbage reality shows on TV, yet knock stuff like this. I also find it funny that grown adults give two shits about what other grown adults do with their time. I also respect the fact that these guys mean the world to a lot of kids and some of these wrestlers go out of their way to do stuff for kids and the make a wish foundations.

FWIW MMA is way trashier than WWE.

why do people keep using this as justification to watch it?

are you people trying to say that all fictitious entertainment is created equal?

I watched it from about ages 9 thru 11 then stopped due to the shame of watching something I knew deep down inside was moronic.

But- to each his own. I'm not judging any grown men that watch it because I don't care about anything anymore.

It's no worse than women watching Kardashian shite.

I think the OP is trying to say without saying it directly that there's a certain kind of person that watches WWE. And for that he's mostly right, because stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason.

But I honestly don't care or let it bother me or make me wonder why someone does what they do for entertainment, especially if it's not hurting anyone else. Nor do I feel above or below someone that does watch WWE.

This is a phrase that has always made me quite curious. Deep down isn't it the same level as something like a Saints or LSU football game? Guys get paid millions of dollars to compete at something that we used to play as kids? Deep down that seems a bit moronic to be that invested in after all "a game" "a hobby" or "something kids do for fun"

OP is trying to look cool by saying what we all already know about wrestling, and how it's shocking to him. It's an underhanded way if putting wrestling fans down.....only for a two count though.

People enjoy watching honey boo boo because it makes them feel better about their own shitty and trashy lives.

Oh I agree with you. I'll be the first to tell you that emotionally investing oneself into a sports team is moronic. And I'm a pretty big sports fan, i.e. I'm a moron. That's why I'm not judging wrestling fans (I'm kind of lying here). So I might judge a little, but I also judge myself so I'm not a hypocrite.

But- at least sports aren't scripted for the most part.

There are many big differences that have been pointed out. A couple are:

1. The games are unscripted. The results are not predetermined. The thrill of the surprise of the event is shared by everyone
2. I think this is the biggest; the team is bigger than the player. For the most part, your team will always be there. It will change and evolve, but it is something people in an area will enjoy for generations. I get confused with wrestling the same way I get confused with Nascar fandom. It just seems weird to me to latch onto an individual that will eventually be out of the event and you will need to latch onto something completely different afterwards.

Also, the posters comparing this to any show (especially the one comparing it to True Detective and Breaking Bad), that is just ridiculous. Wrestling is the equivalent to a soap opera in that the stories can get extreme, but are essentially always the same. It is just a biproduct of having to come up with plots for such a long period of time.
