My brother served about 18 months in a Texas State Prison and he pretty much told me the same thing. Luckily he's a big dude and could handle himself.

ehh this depends too. In the majority black cities few white dudes in there. In the majority white areas, few black dudes in there.
Illegals are mixed in there but they dont stay long, or used to not. They would get sent to the ice centers.

East baton rouge is a prison with holding cells.
So whats the difference?
Its majority black in there regardless if you are in the front or the back.
And if they segregated our block there would have been only two of us in one.

I think there’s a big difference between county jails and state penitentiaries. You don’t want to end up in the latter.
County is typically guys only doing a short stretch. Maybe a few years or awaiting trial. Most people in county either have hope of getting out or are just passing their time trying not to do anything to stay in longer than they have to.
State Penitentiaries are full of lifers with nothing to f’ing lose but their seed in your arse.

Does a week as a POW count?

I have not, but my cousin spent 5 years in the Pennsylvania state penn at SCI Camp Hill for stealing cars and other theft related stuff.
Camp Hill isn't as rowdy as some other prisons, SCI Green is PA's supermax and has a rough reputation.
He said that PA manages their prisons fairly well. they do psych evaluations and segment the populations based on that. Apparently there are pods that are all high-risk alpha types, but they keep them in higher security units. He said things would still get messed up, usually over drugs and debt from drugs.
Basically, he said stay away from the drug scene and you'll probably make it through with only a few issues. Work out every day and get in with the group of inmates that do because they are targeted less and it provides a regime that you can follow daily. If you do frick up or end up in the drug cycle, he said he saw guys that would endlessly have years tacked on to their sentences because of it. Guys would go in with 5 years and likely be able to get out in 2 or three, but would get busted with drugs, get into knife fights over debts or would get into dealing and would end up with 25 or 30 additional years because of it. Those extra years, since they were in the prison, will likely do away with your ability to get parole.
He also said that there were guys there that did time in other states, Illinois, California, Jersey and they all said that PA was tame and places like California were absolutely wild and run by the inmate gangs.

Im just going by the name. EBR is called a prison.

East Baton Rouge Parish Prison
This is what Angola is..

So when you use the word prison, i just assume you mean like east baton rouge prison.
But yes, angola is for lifers. you have a lot of non violent offenders in the county prisons and jails.
Im just saying those localized jails generally represent the make up of the population. Which should make sense to everyone.

Stick to a routine, keep to yourself, and don’t have things that can get stolen.

Court is in session
A verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel
Screams fill the room
Alone I drop and kneel
Silence now the sound
My breath the only motion around
Demons cluttering around
My face showing no emotion
Shackled by my sentence
Expecting no return
Here there is no penance
My skin begins to burn
I've created my own prison
A verdict is in
No appeal on the docket today
Just my own sin
The walls are cold and pale
The cage made of steel

I have a cousin that is your typical Oyo thug type who is always in and out of prison that seems to thrive way better on the inside. Doctors sorted that he was broken when he was still a kid and told my family to expect this life.
He had social media going from the inside for a while, so he’d be posting his music and pics of he and his “friend” a lot. It was weird seeing the dynamic between he and his friend when one would get released. I guess they love(d) each other but had to sort seeing the other be straight on the outside.
Hadn’t checked in on his social media in years now, so who knows what’s going on.

Mid Iowa, were you POW? If so that deserves it's own thread. Please tell us more.
ETA: I see in another thread you mention being a SERE instructor.
