They are probably downvoting for 2 reasons

Yes. We have elderly parents keeping us here for now but I don’t know how much longer we can take it. I want o move my children away before it’s too late.

I don’t want to leave the south but don’t want to live in LA, MS or parts of Alabama. Ideally we’d move as far north as NC/SC/TN area.

There are nice areas in the South just like the rest of the country although I wouldn't necessarily be opposed to leaving it either, mostly for better weather and landscape.

NO, BR, Jackson, Memphis…all scary places and the complete disregard for human life is jarring.

This is like saying Daytona Beach, Gatlinburg, and Panama City aren't very good vacation spots.

No shite.

You picked the worst places to represent the whole. There is no reason to live in those cities unless you're poor and are stuck there. Outside of that, you're choosing to live in a shite-hole. Make better life choices.

FIFY!

If you think you can escape problems and find a utopia in Rural America, then you've never really been there. You know what's worse for your kids than some of what they are exposed to in the city? Having nothing at all to do. They will find things and they won't be the things you want.

I'm headed to the upper plains when I get back to work. I'm eyeballing homes in E Nebraska and South Dakota - crime in this area is going up and thanks to Sixty Rayburns bright idea of connecting to Bogalusa it's going to get worse. not a fan of the best hospital in the area for my condition being in downtown New Orleans either, already got in a wreck (not my fault) and had no police response and constantly being hassled by homeless that surround the place. Already made the decision to get out soon - SE LA is a goner.

That's not true. Just because you don't like small towns doesn't mean there aren't nice small towns to live in. St. Francisville is a nice small town and would have been a fine place to grow up. Not everyone likes big cities and I can appreciate that.

I'll give you that. But saying small town life is some amazing utopia is also not true. You have to look just as hard for a nice small town as you do a city. There are seriously a lot of small towns overrun with drugs. There are a lot that are literally a dying shell. A lot of them also have questionable schools. Sure, not a lot of violent crime, but you really have to watch out for your kids everywhere.

You’re right baw. Just move to a picture perfect suburb outside of a big city with plenty to do. Like, oh I don’t know, Columbine, Colorado?

yeah well that's on you as a parent. You can't blame rural living if your kids are bored and getting into shite they ought not to. Thats your fault (99% of the time).

There might be "nice" small towns in rural America these days, but the population is leaving the rural areas because of the multiple issues that comes with living there. St. Francisville lost 12% of its population during the last census and has less population then it had in 1960. Rural America has been dying for decades.

My cousins grew up in a rural area with “nothing to do” except fish, hunt, ride atv, go bowling, play golf, etc. and they turned out fine. What is so great about big cities exactly?

I'll never live in a city again once my youngest is out of school in 2.5 years. I don't care about the local schools because I won't have any more kids at home. I don't want to even be able to see my closest neighbor's house

Wait, do you honestly think there isn't widespread, senseless violence on the coast and in the Midwest?

The south is just like the other places. There are good areas and there are bad areas.
