My first job brought me back to NELA every six weeks. I always stayed out there when I came over. It was the best place to stay, even though it was, and still is, a terrible neighborhood. The bar had the old BOGO happy hour, and backgammon boards, back when everyone played backgammon.

I used to stay at one for work when I would visit Murfreesboro, TN. Holiday Inn sold it to Clarion. I wonder how many are still out there, but owned by different chains now. I love the Holidome, btw...

spent many a week in the Holidome in McAllen, Texas while auditing various banking clients back in the early and mid 80's. Lots of nights in that bar or over the river in Reynosa Mexico for dinner.

If I recall correctly, there was one near the airport (NOLA) that we'd stay at when we would pick my grandfather up.
We stayed there for almost a month in 77 while our house was getting ready when we moved to New Orleans. It was a wonderful place for a 10 year old to stay.

Was a big fan of swimming inside to outside.
As a child I thought this was the coolest thing ever. I begged my parents for a pool like that; little did I know, your family had to have money to do something like that.

Well, I was 10. I remember swimming pools, slides, arcade games, snacks, noisy people, ping pong, and some sex with housekeeping.

I stayed at the one in New Orleans and Shreveport. Always loved staying at them as that indoor area was a lot of fun.

Good thread.
The one in Kenna Brah by the airport...
When I was a kid after the conclusion of each sport season, we would pretty much always have a team party. Baseball would usually be at someone's house with a pool, or at a neighborhood swim club, but football and basketball, being not during the summer, was almost always at the Holidome.
One of the coaches would rent a hotel room, and all of the parents would split the cost and each kid would bring food, drink, whatever. The entire team would show up late afternoon and swim until it was closing time, then most of us would crash in the room. When we were younger, one of the coaches would stay in there, but by the time we were 9 or so, usually they would leave and it would just be us kids overnight. Coach would come back in the morning before we all woke up, and we would go home.
12-14 kids sleeping in one hotel room.
Those were the days!

I actually do remember these very well. They were kind of revolutionary at that time. They are such a great idea, I am not sure why they are not really popular anymore.

Back in the spring of 1983 or 1984, had our school prom at the Monroe Holidome. If walls could talk. As a younger kid, would go to birthday parties there with the swim and sleepover theme.....20 kids in 2 rooms, eating pizza and watching TV all night.....getting up early am and swimming some more. Grand and simple times!!! Great post topic!

Holidome in Monroe and Club Bobbisox FTW!!
Remember it. It was good in its day. Now it's run down and under a different franchise name, and pretty much gone the way of shopping malls.
The neighborhood has not gotten any better. If I just had to go around that neighborhood, I'd be packing.

Just a guess but I'd imagine the hotels would say people have more sophisticated preferences today. Simple fun is not en vogue. You'd probably have to manage the inside much more carefully than in the past. People will only behave to the level they are allowed today. With liability, you can't allow user discretion around indoor pools and play areas. Trashy people would ruin the experience. You'd have to triple rates to keep them away, and at that price people expect luxury.
It's too bad. I'd enjoy an extended weekend at one by a beach with the kids if it could be a similar feel as it was years ago.

The one in kenner was nice. They made the pool area a function and convention area now though.

Nope. It's been a Crown Plaza for 15 years now.

We did some serious hotel room partying at the Monroe Holidome back in the late 80s/early 90s.
