The sad truth is that shareholders control payroll for major corporations, not the stores. People who know zero about how the business functions or how many people are truly required. Self checkout allows one cashier to oversee 4+ registers at once, so you don't have to wait 30 minutes to checkout. Stores have no control other than to blow payroll budgets, which gets a store manager booted out the door. Too many greedy hands in the pot.

Maybe you should stay in the cashier lane?
Oh, I usually do. Just curious at all the comments that self checkout is quicker and easier. It can be for a small number of items. Do y'all go to the store every day and just get a handful of items?

You are going to get banged up on the OT with this take.
It's a hot take, but he's right. Why should you, a customer, provide free labor for no benefit. This isn't working for the state. I' m not a commie.
Back in the day, super 1 would give you a discount if you bagged your own groceries after they'd check them out. The fact that walmart and most other stores don't do this is out of pure greed tbh.

Sams self checkout app is GOAT.
I only go to Sams a couple times a year but I feel like got damn royalty when I skip that checkout line altogether while people look at me in awe... or like they think I stole all my shite. I'm gonna say they look at me in awe though.

I live alone and probably go to the store about 3 times a week. It’s convenient for me to do so though. I generally buy what I want for dinner and lunch on a Tuesday and this lasts until Thursday or Friday. Then I might pick up something for the weekend. Hell I sometimes just go in for a monster just because it’s just set up so easy.

Always crack up when I see the line at Sams all the way to the back of the store. This weekend they had 4 different lines at least 25 people deep.
Back to OP:
Faster
Less bags (my local store double bags everything and will only put 2-3 items even if they are small)
Bagged properly
Don't have to worry about cashier bouncing produce
Don't have to wait behind the slow shoppers as there are multiple registers
When I don't feel like talking to anyone, I don't need to (I do most grocery shopping as soon as the store opens on Sunday mornings)

Wait what.
Walmart has shut down every single checkout isle besides self checkout at most locations all throughout the day. And if they luckily do have one, the person is always on break.
So you have these backed up lines for 20+ minutes of dopes checking their own bags out, providing free labor for walmart, and some dumb bitch on her phone in a yellow vest not giving a shite about loss prevention.
Ive literally never met anyone who actually likes self checkout before. But, the OT always surprises me.

I go once a week. I can scan and bag what I get pretty fast- and get out of the store.
If I was spending over $150 and getting a bunch of stuff I guess I’d probably let a cashier ring me up and bag everything for me.

depends on the amount of items i have. if it's less than a dozen or so, i avoid having to deal with cashiers.

Anyone Refuse to Use Self Checkout
The WalMart Grocery by our house has 12 self-checkout machines and one line. So you just go to whichever one is the next one open, if all are in use.
It is absolutely the way to go. It avoids the issue of one or two old people who don't know how to use them, clogging up the line.

The Mrs. does most of the shopping. She goes once a week and uses curbside pickup because she has our kid with her. Only time I go to the store is if she forgets something or needs something last minute so I'm only grabbing a handful of items at most.

I generally only use the self checkout if the cashier lanes are backed up.
Which is most of the time as they usually only have one or two open. Out of 15.
Pricks.

I believe that you should get a 5% discount or earn points for using self checkout at stores. There is no benefit to the consumer other than checking out faster.
I believe you can’t see the forest through the trees.
What is the value of your time?
When I’m buying groceries, the goal is to get in and out as quickly as possible. Obstacles to that are being stuck behind some cocksucker that wants to write a check, or someone that wants to debate the advertised price vs the register price, some checkout person speaking illegibly to me, a slow arse bagger, a clerk ringing up the wrong produce, and so on.
So give me self checkout all day every day. The benefit of getting in and out of there as quickly and efficiently as I do is worth paying the same price that fat slackasses pay as they wait with the rest of the herd in the corrals, tolerating each other’s stupidity and laziness.

The price of items should include checkout and carryout.
