flying for six hours is dumb. Not even worth it to take the risk of a flight delay
Plus if you plan on renting a car anyways just doesn't seem worth it

For me, it really depends on convenience.
If I can get a direct flight, I’ll fly most of the time if it’s an 8 hour or longer drive. But if I have to deal with connections and/or inconvenient flight times I’ll drive. We drove to Key West earlier this year because the flights were way too inconvenient and would have us waking up at 3 am and still spending 12+ hours traveling from airport to airport.
I live about 6 hours from 30A beaches, we drive when we go there.

Depends on how far and how much time off work I have. If I were going from Texas to Miami, that's 2 days on the road each way. If I only had a week off, I'd fly. If I had a month, I'd drive.

With a family of 4 I would rather drive 16 hours than pay $1600 to fly, $100+ for parking, then another $700 to rent a car for a week.
In reality you are talking a 1 hr drive to MSY from BR, get there 1-2 hours early, hope you aren't delayed, baggage claim 1 hr, and rental car another .5 hour. You are already 3-4 hours without the flight time, not including if there is a layover. Plus with driving you go at your own pace.

I can afford to fly but unless it's the West Coast, nah. Driven to FLA from mid-Atlantic 4-5 times in the past few years. Naples, Miami, and the Redneck Riviera.
Fixing to do a retirement tour all over the lower 48 in my Wrangler.

As a younger man I was usually up for road trips over flying. As an older guy I max out at about 5-7 hours in good weather conditions and then choose flying.

That's on my bucket list when I retire in 4 years. So many cool things to see in this country.

The drive to Orlando isn't bad. I kind of enjoy it.
The ride home is like a torture
Back in the day I used to drive Miami to Baton Rouge for several years and as you said, that I-10 West through the FL panhandle was torture.
Other than that, road trips are fun.

Depends on if I have to take my wife and kids.

Six hours? I’m driving.
this. The hassle of getting to the airport, dealing with security, boarding etc.. the uncomfortable plane seats, then dealing with the airport crowd and baggage claim, getting out of the airport....
I'd rather drive.

Airports are a pain in the arse. I drive if under 12 hours usually

Yes. Those who flew prior to 9/11 cant stand it. It used to be so easy to just hop on a half filled plane and go. Unless its work or multiple days driving i’ll drive and probably get there just a few hrs later anyway

just drove 11.5 hours(one way,) to avoid the airport experience for an hour and a half flight, and I fly for free, so yeah

Drive. Air travel sucks, topped only by car rental once you arrive. Give me the open road.
