6 hours I’m doing some serious contemplating. 6 is my threshold on drive or fly.

14 hours of driving is my cutoff point.
Flying is a pain in the arse, especially since my nearest airport is 1.5 hours away and it’s a small regional airport with limited flight options.
So I’ve got three hours of driving to and from the airport. Then add getting there an hour early and then having a layover of at least 1.5 hours (I will not have a shorter layover- especially nowadays where you are screwed if you miss your connecting flight).

It also depends where the driving is. I go a few times a year to see a friend who lives north of Houston. I hate the drive. The bridge in BR, the Whiskey Bay Bridge, and the area near the state line is just a roll of the dice on if a wreck will have happened.
There is always some BS when making that trip

Airports. Airplanes and airlines are freaking miserable.
USA is beautiful.
Easy choice.
I’ve taken train from NOLA to Montreal.
And NOLA to Chicago. A bunch.
I’d take train more if it was more reliable.

I did 16 hours to Colorado and driving was one of my favorite parts.

I'll be 71 tomorrow and can honestly say I've only flown 4 times in my lifetime. Every other trip I've taken has been by vehicle or motorcycle, with most of the long trips being by motorcycle.
I have no issue running 700+ miles a day on a motorcycle and the farthest I've been in a 24 hour period is just over 1100 miles.
I've got a friend I've visited with to spend a few days riding in his part of the world in Indiana. From my door to his is 840 miles and I've made that round trip 3 times over the years. Leave the house at 4 a.m. and be at his before 7 p.m.
I have no love of flying and with all the BS you have to put up with now, I doubt I ever will fly again.

Anything over 4 and I’m flying.
8 hrs of focused management of a vehicle versus me sitting back thoughtlessly.

8 hours or longer drive before I consider flying
This is pretty accurate, and “consider” is an optimal word here - you still have to look at the time involved to and from the airport, how long a flight it is, is it non-stop, do you have to rent a car at your destination, etc.
Also by “8 hour drive” is that 550-600 miles with one 15 minute stop for gas, or 480 and multiple stops including lunch?

shite i drive from my house to Estes Park CO every other June it takes a day and a half each way.
I hate flying and anymore you are likely to be stranded by an airline due to cancelled flights

Either that, or I'm breaking it into multiple days.

Fly for business drive for personal. I enjoy seeing new areas and observing the different scenery of the USA. The stop at the roadside cafe, the surprisingly good bluegrass band, regional foods, wayside places, and the feel of the car on the open road. Get tired stop, rest and spend the night.

Depends on the scenery. I’m not driving if I’m going to Texas or through western Florida.

I'm driving. At least I won't have unsupervised kids kicking the back of my seat.

Six hours? I’m driving.
Easily.
If I can drive it comfortably in 8 hours or so, I'm driving.
When you account for the time traveling to the airport, the extra hour (or 2) before your flight departs, the boarding/connecting/delays, then getting checked baggage etc, you're most often going to be in the same ballpark or more, timewise, as driving .

You could have driven there in all the time it took to post this.
