Anyone quit smoking cigarettes?
Posted by braves21

How did you do it? I’m on day 2. Morning’s are the toughest. I’ve been smoking since I was 15 and I’m 33 now. Finally called the quitline and was given patches and logenzes. On a scale of 1 to 10 how committed to quitting I am I’m a 10. It’s just not sustainable.

Have you simply tried cutting back? How many do you smoke per day?
I know some people who don’t even think about smoking unless they’re having a few drinks.
Not every smoker is the same.

I did. Went from a pack a day on average (18-28) with a few times I would "quit". Came off the road, put them down cold, and just bit down and dealt with it. Within a week I was good. Have a craving every now and then when I'm drinking, but usually if I smell them now, it's pretty nauseating. Stick with it. It's just shitty for a little while, but the reward is worth every millisecond

I swapped to those On pouches with lowest nicotine level. Best I can do.

Got off all nicotine 5+ years ago after 26 years of smoking. Never again.

I used to smoke about 1/2 pack a day and a pack when I went out drinking. I gradually cut down to 2 cigs a day-one before I left for work and one when I got home, essentially going about 10 hours between smoking. I suggest you gradually cut back. Once you get to the point where you are smoking 2-3 cigarettes a day, it becomes easier. Cold turkey quitting never worked for me.

Apparently this book helps a lot of people. Never read it, but people swear by it.

Nicotine isn't what gives you cancer and emphysema.
Quit 8 years ago from a pack or more a day. After trying 100 times, I finally committed to quit and did it cold turkey. I tried patches, gum, and others but one night I put them down knowing I had to in order to live a better life.

Enlist a friend, like an AA sponsor. Commit to calling your friend BEFORE you light up.
It gets easier every day. In 2-3 weeks, you will wake up one morning feeling the best you have since the morning after you popped your cherry.

I know next to nothing about this, but I have a buddy who went from a daily smoker to an occasional vaper (if that’s a word). I know even less about vapes, and I don’t know if there is a difference between the ones people use recreationally and what he used to stop smoking cigarettes. Looks like a stubby kazoo that emits a little bit of odorless smoke that evaporates quickly.
Best of luck in your journey.

I was in your boat but went to 35ish. I used the patch and sunflower seeds. Once you get some time under your belt, just recognize you'll throw it all away if you slip up.
I still have the occasional dream that I smoked and blow my 15 years of tobacco free living. I wake up pissed at myself.
