Anyone played poker yet at the Louisiana Card House in Metairie?

It's a new poker room that opened here about 2 weeks ago. Was considering giving it a try.

Not sure how the house makes its money though. I am guessing either a flat fee per seat or some kind of membership fee to get through the door.

If it is anything like the ones here in Texas, they charge a membership fee (weekly, monthly, or yearly) and a flat rate per hour which standard is about $13/hr. Sometimes they will run deals like $99 for 9 hrs or give you half off the hour is you play a game they are trying to get more action on such as PLO.

In just about every state in the country if there ain't no rake their ain't no problem. Georgia, having some of the most archaic gambling laws in the country, says that a penny ante poker game is illegal, rake or not. My grandfather and uncle ran a game where they took a rake for years and years in the 60s and 70s around Atlanta and it wasn't a secret that they did so...never had a minutes trouble unless paying off the local authorities is one's idea of a problem. They had a pretty notorious sherriff in a county just west of downtown who was sympathetic to their cause who had about as much power in metro Atlanta as the governor. This is why gambling should be legal everywhere...the alternative is corrupt politicians and officials and once they are compromised there is no end to what some people will get them to do.
Most card rooms outside of states that allow them to take a rake operate on some sort of private membership / flat hourly rate to sit at the table. They make money on food and drink in most instances. Some of them make a lot of money....some are pretty sad.

In my experience thats about the going rate. If one wants to hone their skills or learn to play it ain't a bad way to do so. Poker is fun if it doesn't get to be a problem. One will definitely learn more playing against serious players even if they are also learning than playing in weekly games around the table at the house.

It’s hard to find limit cash games these days. And if you can find one, it’s usually only certain times of the week. Poker room by me plays it once a month.
