The Lexus quality is the best. You will not get the reliability and service from Audi, Infinity, BMW, etc. that you will get from the Lexus RX.

Why don’t you just drive a Toyota & save thousands of dollars. Do you know what the name of Lexus cars are in Japan? TOYOTA!!
Lexus IS only a marketing brand for the USA dumbasses that fall for it.

If you don’t believe me open the hood. On the engine is stamped Toyota. LOL

Wife and I went a month ago to look at a Audis . Test drive a bunch, including the Q5 but ended up buying an A5 Cabriolet. I liked the Q5 but we already have a full size SUV and didn’t need another and smaller SUV. That A5 is fun as hell to drive when you are used to a larger SUV or truck. Feel like I am driving a go cart.

Uh,ok.

My Audi shares lot of parts with Volkswagen and some are even stamped VW. Many of the powertrains are of VW derivatives. That doesn't make them any less nor does Lexus/Toyota.

<—— Lexus owner for over 20 years.

Short of a BJ at every visit to the dealership, I can’t imagine it being a better experience.

Loaner cars, letting me park for weeks at the Metairie dealership while gone to Europe, not fricking me on maintenance issues.

Zero defects on four separate Lexus vehicles over 20+ years and over 600k miles.

In the USA: Lexus >>> Toyota

tl/dr:

Audi has become the new Buick. Solid but vanilla. BMW is the new Oldsmobile. Everyone has one and they aren’t as good as a Buicks. Mercedes is the new Chrysler. Enough said.

Lexus service department is very difficult to beat, especially at our dealer in Houston. Make the appointment and they get things done quickly or just give you an equivalent lender. She pulls in to the service department and the RFID chip is scanned. They come out to meet her, know who she is and what is getting done. Does not involve me in any way. Lexus service is just awesome.

I have the same experience in BR.
Daughter has the audi. Parts are more expensive.

Wife drives a 2019 Q5. She loves it but the options add up quickly if you want decent equipment. Sticker was 55k and it wasn’t the top trim.

That was what happened to us. The options we wanted on a 4runner made it easy for us to buy a lexus (gx460- husband wanted body on frame)

The RX350 is the perfect mom mobile. The Lexus dealership doesn’t frick around either, so you will get great service.

fyi if you do look at audi consider CPO.
i have been driving audis for a while and way before you saw many around the US.
i always buy CPO because of high number of point items checked and the warranty etc.
They know you are paying a lot for a used car so make it like new. And treat you no differently then new buyer.
Also they take a big first years hit in value and
the difference in trims cost really takes a hit. so you can get a top trim model for not much difference.
i usually take a vehicle with a few thousand more miles and get top trim package cause the car is under warranty fir x more miles from the amount on the car when purchased

Yep, we held onto the wife's 350 RX and she/we love it. But I just bought her a KIA Telluride that she loves too. We've owned Toyotas and Lexuses for a long time but this Telluride was just too good not to try. Got it for her for Christmas, so far so good. I've been driving the Lexus whenever I don't feel like driving the F150 but we really held onto the Lexus as a backup for the kids. They seem to always be in need of borrowing a car when theirs are in the shop or for whatever.

ETA: We had an Audi Q5 a few years ago that we ended up giving to one of the daughters and she is still driving it up in Knoxville.

We are exactly there too with our soon to be 16 yo twins. (One car)

Cherokee gets poor reliability ratings though.

Q5 is leader.

wife drove a Q5 for a couple of years... it's small as shite, but it's a fun vehicle to drive... but if you have a family and shite, don't get it... it's just to fricking small to be of any real value...

q5 is fine for 1 small kid (in car seat), or 2 kids with no car seats. 2 kids both in front facing car seat can work. if you have multiple kids, with at least 1 in a rear facing car seat, q5 is too small.

this all assumes you are OK with the rear cargo space. road trips with lots of luggage and multiple strollers can get tight.

Wife drives a RX 350 F; only had it a bit over a year so no long term reliability issues yet but it’s given us no issues. Put almost 30k on it since new and it’s been great. We also looked at the Q5 and the Alfa Romeo (I forget which model is the SUV). The Alfa was our first choice by FAR performance wise until we drove it, it felt beyond cramped inside but was a rocket.

I have a Q5 with 89,000 miles. Its a great vehicle that is fun as hell to drive. The 2.0 turbo four is a great engine. I've never driven the V6 model. Its safe and I have had no major issues. There have been some recalls that have been fixed quickly. Its a great looking fun to drive sports suv.

The only thing I will warn you about is service. The Q5 is outstanding while under factory warranty. Parts are expensive if its out of warranty. We haven't had major issues that used much of the warranty but its something to consider. The consumable items like brakes etc I have purchased aftermarket parts.

The Audi dealership service is expensive compared to other vehicles. I found a local German shop that is much cheaper so that's something to consider.

If you are buying from a dealerships its worth talking to them about a service plan also. If you are going to keep it and drive it a long time its worth making sure you have a reasonable German repair shop close to you just in case.

Last couple of things. The Audi awd is outstanding. It really makes a difference even down south in the rain. The only other big thing I would think about is how long are your going to keep it. The Audi depreciates much faster then a Lexus. Buyers are scared of higher mileage Audi's even thou they are very dependable. Nobody is scared of a higher mileage Lexus. Depreciation if your going to keep the vehicle a while is something to consider.
