Actually - Al Jones, who worked for Hays Town for many years, has pretty much taken over the mantle of the Creole/Southern architect and does some very good work. As of today he is the "Hays Town" of the area. His sons draw too.
I would imagine the grandsons, Adam and George as well as Chris have access to drawings he did.
I think that D. R. Horton guy is a level above though.
Really Baton Rouge is an architectural friendly city. People here see value in them. And that is a good thing.

Cool. I think he did St. Albans Chapel at the corner of Highland and Dalrymple and the Bio Engineerg building and Highland and S. Stadium.

They're all nice designs.

My house was designed by his firm but I don't know if he personally drew it or not. The house was built in the early 1970's and I am the third owner. The plans were lost to time. I am preparing to do some major renovations and am working very hard to stay true to the character of the design with the remodel.
ETA- I am in Southdowns. Just recently learned that he lived right off of Dalyrmple on Stanford. My place is right down the road.

Been researching and I can't find more specific examples of the beeswax stained bricks that are considered a staple of his home designs. Can someone provide a link?

Call Al Jones office and ask. They can point you in the right direction.

This was in the last house I worked in. This was a hidden area in a hallway where the bricks were unfinished. You can see how dark they usually were with the sanding and beeswax

Crappy pic of the floor, sorry. But this is all I had on my phone.

I have the recepie for his beeswax mix. Friends dad did some work for him from time to time and had some of his stuff. I used it on a cypress desk I made and it came out great.

His designs are beautiful. One of my clients had a home designed by A Hays Town and they said he even strongly suggested they should get a German Shepard to go with the home.

He made his reputation with his first few houses then was over rated the rest of his career.

Meh, ballers live in Frank Lloyd Wright houses.

Then they best own a vast collection of umbrellas.

Just realized pic in OP used to be owned by a good friend of the family. I spent many an hours working for them in highschool and college. Truly and magnificent house, I believe it was the 2nd to last house Mr. hayes ever did.

He's up there with Frank Lloyd Wright in terms of respect in the architect design world.
No. That's just not true.
Not to take away from A. Hays Town, but it's not a fair comparison.

Didn't he design Wrenwood off Jefferson?

I did. Sold it in 2012 to downsize my dad after my mom passed away. Lafayette.
My dad bought it in kind of a distress sale in the late 60s.
The look was "unique" from the outside, but the quality and materials and interior design were unbeatable.
