First off, sign of a true OT Baller if you do.

This guy designed some of th finest houses in Baton Rouge.

I believe there are quite a few in Bocage.

I did. I also have a complete set of drawings he did for my mother that was never built. He would not draw it until the property was bought so she bought a lot, hired him to draw it and never built the house. I sold the lot when she died. He drew their house in 1966 and was an old family friend.

I saw Chris Town last week. His dad Sonny, (Hays Junior) is an engineer and built many of his fathers houses.

If you want an equally interesting story research Cyril Vetter who published that book. He's a poet, musician, tv station owner, songwriter, author, Vietnam vet among other things.

My father knew him, professionally at least, and what I remember him saying was that often people would say he developed their house when he didn't but be was too polite to correct them.

So if a mutual friend would say, oh Mrs. Lejeune said you did her house (and he hadn't), he'd be warm and not contradict. He would say something like, yes, I should go see what I did there, I don't really remember - he was known for him sharp memory.

I live in one of the first houses he ever designed....might be the first. Built in 1951. His style must have evolved over time to the West Indies look because mine looks nothing like any of his published works.

I have set of house plans and construction document. I'm the second owner.

I knew his grand daughter in law. She took me to visit him several times. Incredible guy...that German Shepherd on cover of his book was a terrifying animal. I think I sharted once when it charged me.

Well he wasn't for everybody but if you look around he had many styles but all were southern in some form or fashion. If you see a house that he designed for sale today his name alone commands probably a 10% markup if not more. And it is always mentioned.

I grew up down the street from a house he did in St. Gabriel. Jessica Lange lived in it for a few years in the 80's. He's up there with Frank Lloyd Wright in terms of respect in the architect design world.

Yes it was beautiful inside and out, but also felt very empty. I've learned since then that bigger isn't necessarily better. I'm very happy where I am now.

My wife's grandparents on both sides and her parents house are Hayes town houses and are all still in the family. Pretty fine houses from the slate roof on down. He had some pretty interesting concepts for the time.
