1st Edition? They bring $1000 each.

I am kicking myself for not buying a complete set of drawings he did for a bank on Florida Blvd. the drawings were at the Trash & Treasure sale a few months ago, put on by the Rotary Club Intercircle. They were asking $500 for the complete set. It was the second day and said I was the only one that picked it up and knew what it was. There were 5 drawings but only two were worthy of framing. I offered $200 for the two drawings but they turned it down. Told me they were not planning on lowering the price on the last day like they do everything else, but said I could have all of them for $400. I turned them down.

Did you go to school with them (the Town boys)? And maybe a certain state senator? I'm guessing I know you IRL

I dated a girl in HS that lived in one of his houses, and he also did my Dad's next door neighbors. Very different sized houses between Pike's Lane and Unversity Acres...

I live in a copy currently.. Not the whole design but the porch, steps, etc.. I'm a big fan of his style but I wouldn't pay premium for one.

I believe there are quite a few in Bocage.

There are several in there. And I've personally been involved in 3 remodels to them as well. Beautiful homes to say the least. He was way ahead of his time with the beams and brickwork throughout the house. I've heard stories from people who hired him for their plans and they say he was a bit of an arse because it was more of "this is your house, but I have all the say so. I'm the expert" kinda thing. The guy had one hell of a vision and eye for detail.

I can respect that. If you hire a high dollar designer and question his design, you shouldn't have hired him n the first place. Tell him what you want and wait for the design.

I think the only way to get this book is to buy one off someone who has a house. They don't print them anylonger. They came with the original purchase of the house.

Not true, I was holding the 10th edition last night at Barnes & Noble at Perkins Rowe, $50. They had plenty.

I think we may be talking about two different books. The one with him and his dog is really available. But there is one that only comes with the house. It's a collection of color renderings of his houses. At least this is what I've been told by two different people in Bocage who have the book.

I built at least 20 of them in town. The most detailed plans I've ever worked from. Great man too.

Yes it was beautiful inside and out, but also felt very empty. I've learned since then that bigger isn't necessarily better. I'm very happy where I am now.

Nope. They might have been the buyers though. We sold it back in the early 90's.

They built it and owned it in the 70's and 80's.

Is living in an A. Hayes Town designed home the first thing the OT can agree is not trashy?

You and Martini and I have lots of mutual friends no doubt. One day we need to get together for debriefing and cocktails.

I'd be willing to bet the only person that built that many was his son Sonny. And Hays Town acted as his own builder many times himself.

I think the new guy designing houses is some cat named "D. R. Horton." I see his houses everywhere. He must be really good.

I'd like to be on the sidelines for that convo.
