That's an unfortunate username for a State fan

I have several vehicles. One is an F-150 that’s a little older but I drive it once a week just so it doesn’t just sit idle.
Lately it’s been running hot but never overheats. In fact, the gauge with go up 3/4 of the way and then go back down to it’s normal temp, as if something is stuck and then releases.
Does that sound like my water pump is going out or an obstuction in my radiator. It seems to me if the thermastat was stuck then it would just keep getting hotter until it got overheated. Any idea?

Does it go back down when moving?
Check coolant.
If not full that’s the problem.
If full, then check if your fan is coming on.
If neither of those, it’s the thermostat

Coolant is full and fan works fine. Well, if it’s the thermastat that’s easy. Thx.
ETA: Yes it goes back down when moving as well as it runs hot when moving. This is a first for me lol.

Yeah check YouTube on to replace and the symptoms of a bad thermostat... that's what I'm thinking

To answer your question I would go with this.
To help you out though I would suggest not owning a Ford.

Thermostats can wear and get a spot that sticks on them and unstick when it gets hot enough.
Fan clutch could be going out
The impeller on the water pump could be getting worn or spun from the shaft.
Assuming there are no leaks, I’d check the fan cutch and if it’s okay, change the water pump and tstat

Probably a faulty canuter valve. That or your rotator splints are shot.

It sounds like the thermostat. Be sure to get a new gasket when you replace it.
Most Fords have a weep hole that will begin leaking slowly when the water pump is about to go out. If there is no water leaking (Not A/C condensation) your water pump is probably fine.
What year and motor?

Check the specs on the end-line for the rotary girder.
