My mom was officially diagnosed in November, although in September it was a "it very likely you have als" situation.

Man I’m so sorry. I can’t imagine how painful it is to see her like that. ALS scares the hell out of me.

If you are a follower of Christ, death is a promotion to heaven. Therefore death is like a bee without a sting. This life is the worst you’ll ever have to deal with.

I’m not afraid of it, but the older I get the more I think about it…

I’d be ok if I died tomorrow. I don’t want to, but my conscience is clear and I know where I’m going. I would feel for my wife and kids, but I’m at peace with it. Unlikely at 43, but who knows.

You are a creature that knows you’re going to die; one that knows everything dies. You know that you are an end branch on a tree of life that has persisted on this planet for 3.8 billion years.

You are part of the penultimate intelligent species that earth has produced. Only machine intelligence will eclipse you.

Your chance of existence is a conservative 1 in 700 trillion. For example, a Roman soldier who should have died in the Battle of Actium but didn’t and went on to father many children is one of the trillions of things that had to happen, just as they did, for you to be conceived and then born.

You are a conscious being, aware of your environment but also aware of your mortality. There are an inestimable number of other life forms that are aware of their environments but lack self awareness. Would you rather have lived as what you are or as one of the creatures that are ignorant of the concept of death?

When you were conceived, your consciousness began. When you die, your consciousness will end. While you are conscious, you are sentient.

As a human being, you are the zenith of biological evolution. The end species. The creator of the super-intelligent species, AI.

Death is not to be feared but to be anticipated, to be cherished as the termination of a life which is a complexity so rare that humanity may be the sole civilization in our vast galaxy.

The only thing to fear is fear itself. Soak it up baby and then smile back!

That’s kind of the point, eternal nothingness after having this is terrifying IMO

Where you are, death is not.
Where death is, you are not.

Now that I have 3 kids under 4 years old, I hope I don’t die now, but being scared of actually dying? Naaa nothing to be scared of

Having kids made me more worried about it.

Accept that the monkey you are currently inhabiting is not you. You are a soul and return to the collective consciousness to do whatever is required next. An eternal being with perpetual amnesia.

Not afraid of death, afraid of dying. I am confident in my eternity but hate the thought of suffering in the process of getting there- I'm cowardly.
