If you're not religious, you have no more reason to fear the period after your death than you were to fear the period before your birth. If you're religious and truly believe what you claim to believe, and you're following the tenets of your religion, what is there to be afraid of?

Frankly, people who truly fear death confuse me a bit.

Anyone not afraid of death?

I had a stroke about 5 years ago and was in the ICU at the hospital for about a week. Laying in the bed one night at 3 AM , I realized that had absolutely no fear of dying….not even slightly. I am afraid of being a burden to my loved ones.

What specifically are you afraid of?

I am way more afraid of a loved one dying (and having to live without them) than I am of dying

What I don't like is the death noise.

Like a gasp for air but louder.

Watched my dad die.

Anxious about the process? Some. But afraid? Not really.

Just make your peace with God and the rest falls into place. I was at my aunt's funeral a few months ago, and the preacher spoke about how she was now in the conscious presence of the Lord. That really struck a chord with me, that at the moment of death, I will be just as aware and alive as I am now - maybe even more so - and I will be in Heaven with the Lord. I mean, that sounds awesome.

We are all afraid if we are being honest.

It is life's great unknown despite all the advancements of science and millennia of theology.

Look up near death experiences and how no one who has experienced one is afraid of death anymore, and how at peace they were. Itll help with the fear.

I was until I underwent chemo.

Like night and day, no longer fear or worried about it. Would like to see my oldest Granddaughter graduate college, but outside of that I have lived a good, long, fulfilling life with some failures along the way.

I’m not because I can’t control it. All I can do is prevent as much as possible.

Not afraid of the inevitable, why fret over that which cannot be changed.

Now burying a spouse or child, you have every right to fear those deaths..... surviving those events take a toll greater than most can imagine.

Have you had a colonoscopy? When they feed you that white milk and knock you out...you are out. You cannot fight it. There is nothing to fear. When you're gone, you're gone. Why fight it with useless worry.

Yea but thats just part of the process and unavoidable if you were a good father, husband, brother friend etc..If they don't grieve you...you were doing it wrong.

I worry more about being a burden in old age and that is something that can be mitigated.......to some extent.

I'm terrified at the thought of it! Like, what happens, where do you go, are you aware of anything, will I really get to see my family.
All of the unknown is what I don't like.

It’s going to happen to all of us.

I accepted that fact a long time ago.
