Anyone know why the La. dmv is down today, and also yesterday.

Tried both days going to a tag & title, place but not operational due to state issues with the dmv.
Gotta love Louisiana.

Teen employees more than likely

They are setting up a new system for them to use to replace the old one.

Saw an article in the paper. They are replacing the ancient computer system. They started last week and, of course, the job isn't done on time so all of the offices are closed statewide.
In a normal business, heads would roll for closing the entire organization. At the DMV, everyone is getting paid and they don't give two fricks that they aren't servicing customers. Zero incentive to get things done and it will be ready when its ready.
If this were Popeyes, they would tell you to pull up and wait.

Maybe a hack that they haven't announced to the public yet. We had that happen last year and it was a total clusterfrick for a while

Upgrade so its more easily hackable.

I wouldn't be happy if i had to deal with this today, but the system being upgraded is 20 years overdue. I had to deal with multiple car buying/selling situs with the family last year and the old system would literally fail at least one time every week. It was always down. So if it takes a 4 day off period to get a system that works, it is worth it.

According to Landry, Louisiana’s contract with CHAMP will take two years to complete, six months faster and $28 million cheaper than a competing proposal from FAST, another vehicle management software company.
They're likely doing something underneath the application itself like moving a number of databases off of the mainframe, etc. With a year left in the project, y'all shouldn't see much impact yet.

The regular DMV employees may not care but the IT guys are going to have high ranking politicians breathing down their neck until this is done.

Yeah how dare they train people on a new system.
Posted on 9/15/26 at 3:25 pm to TigerBait2008
Supposedly it all started last week. Hire more intelligent dmv workers that don't need 2-3 weeks of training.

Somethings are more complicated then pulling fries out the grease when the timer goes off like you do all day.
