But I couldn't imagine doing something in my 20s shite-faced (that I possibly didn't even remember) and be looking at potentially life in prison a few days later.

Happened to a guy I knew in college and he wasn’t even that drunk. Exchanged words with a guy outside a bar, decided to walk away, guy charged him and grabbed him, he threw an elbow in self defense and caught him just right. Knocked the guy out and he fell back and his head bounced on the curb. Died a week or so later. He was acquitted because jury bought it was self defense. DA honed in on him having a tiny among of weed on him when the cops arrived like that mattered.

Don’t know him personally but we were at LSU together, had mutual friends.

Get this: his GF that he was with that night and dated for like 4 years is now dating one of his LSU buddies.

Imagine being on trial for your life and then find out your “buddy” and old girl are banging… Salt in the wound.

Classy bunch! The lot of them

LOL. And so much for his friend having his back through the shitstorm too. Don’t know who I’d feel more betrayed by if I were Garrett: my ex, my “friend”, or my attorneys for not getting a decent plea deal… probably all of the above

I’d imagine he feels most betrayed by his drunk self for killing that guy

How is this guy not overseas? Covid crisis gave him plenty of time to plan and start a new life somewhere far away.

Seems about right. He's pretty damn lucky he didn't get convicted or second degree murder with a New Orleans jury, but I'm guessing he's going to get the max sentence for mansluaghter

I mean they're dating. People in their 20's break up over all kinds of menial shite. I'd say killing someone might would be a deal breaker for most. It's not like they were engaged, married, or had a child together

Any OT lawyers want to comment on likely sentence?

Ward is a POS killer now and will spend 20+ in jail. If I was his former friend or ex gf I wouldn’t worry about what he thinks

Yeah I agree. By the time he gets out he will be middle age/old with a criminal record. I would of just lived it up these last 4 years then either leave or kill myself.

Also does he have to be in jail while awaiting sentencing or could he still be out on bail?
