That dude was from Slaughter I believe, who killed 7 people in a DWI crash. From what I read about the case, he has to do all 30 years without the benefit of parole. Initially, Gerald was given 10 years/victim, which resulted in a sentence of 70 years combined.

The dude was real fricked up it sounds like. Probably doesn't remember much of anything about the incident other than just beating the shite out of the guy.

This is every angry drunk's worst nightmare.

Getting to the party a little late..

So there's not one camera in front of the hotel or across the street that got this on video?

My initial reaction is that if he woke up to someone going through his pockets then they deserve the beating.

My second reaction is that if you're passed out on a fricking sidewalk and wake up to someone going through your pockets then maybe you need some help.

If he was black-out drunk he may not remember what the hell transpired.

Been there...

Why would he take the stand? Don’t most lawyers don’t want there client taking the stand? He certainly did not help himself with that testimony.

Depends on the circumstances. In this case, he is claiming self defense so he pretty much has to take the stand to tell his side of the story. There's no other way.

Also, he will need to deny that he made the racist comments that the witness said he made.

Ward’s Counselor may believe taking the stand is his only option at this point. Jason Williams is taking this case all the way, it doesn’t look good for Ward.

Yeah it does not look good. So Jason Williams is pushing for 2nd degree which is mandatory right? Any chance they offer a plea?

If Williams has tried the case up to this point, it sounds to me like a plea wasn’t offered, but don’t quote me on that. The Orleans Parish DA’s office wouldn’t have wasted their time going to trial if they didn’t offer a plea. If Ward is convicted of 2nd degree murder the only available sentence is life in prison without the possibility of parole. Seemingly, after each day goes by it’s becoming more apparent that Ward will be convicted of 2nd degree murder.

If you go to the Orleans Parish docket master, there is a summary of the court proceedings since the inception of the case. there is a mention that there were plea negotiations in this case over a year ago but they obviously fell apart for some reason.

I wonder if they offered him like 30 years and he decided he'd rather take his chances at trial?

Thanks man for clarifying. I could not imagine what’s going on in Wards head right now knowing what awaits him.

What was the reasoning he beat the shite out of the man?

Assuming things went down the way some of the witnesses say than he deserves to go to jail.

But I couldn't imagine doing something in my 20s shite-faced (that I possibly didn't even remember) and be looking at potentially life in prison a few days later.

A plea deal was offered months back from what I know. The morning Ward was set to go to the court house and begin the process of jail time the man’s family came back saying they no longer agreed to the plea deal and wanted a trial.

I remember in the original thread that there was some sort of altercation with a girl and the black guy intervened? Not sure if that turned out to be true or not.
