Pretty crazy that they found the condo owners responsible because someone got drunk and decided to dive in a 3 ft lagoon. Would be pretty shocking to the rental industry if this holds up on appeal.

They should make the judge dive head first into the lagoon.

The issue is he didn't know it was 3' deep and there were no warnings to that effect; since the condo knew it was unsafe to dive into there should've been signs posted. I'm sure he was deemed partially responsible so if they awarded him $11.6MM and he was deemed to be even 50% responsible he'll get $5.8MM...at least I believe that's how it works.

Do you really need a fricking sign that says don’t jump head first into an unknown body of water?

It’s shite people that think you NEED to warn people not to be stupid that makes me sick.

Like the wording on the car sun-visor things that have to warn you to not drive while it's in place.

So I guess every shallow body of water now requires signage that one should not dive. How are they going to accomplish something like that when there are literally millions of spots along waterways ditches etc that one should not dive?

This is simply retarded and a complete lack of common sense. Everyone at that condo will end up paying for him being a dumbass.

If there had been a sign, he probably would've won something anyway.

People can't be expected to have common sense.

Is Little Lagoon not enough?

I don’t know Gulf Shores and was thinking this was some pool at condo that was not labeled properly until I looked and saw it’s an actual lagoon (not sure if lagoon itself is public but has access to Gulf). Wondering how far private property extends into lagoon and what others have around it or are required to have.

This is bullshite on so many levels. I'll be even more pissed if it's a natural body of water.

Come on man. The guy had been drinking for 9 hours straight when he decided in the middle of the night to dive in there. At some point some people need to take responsibility for their own stupidity and stop blaming others. I guess he would also sue if he fell asleep by the pool and got severe burns from the sun that they didn't warn him about. It's common sense to not dive into unknown water without knowing the depths, it's not something that should be spelled out for you.

As a safety manager, I use the term “don’t eat paint” often. This is on paint cans because some dumbass at some point ate paint.

The guy was a dumbass, should the government put don’t dive signs on draining ditches? No, because of don’t jump on, much less DIVE into an unknown body of water.
