It's definitely not a trophy travel thing. It's still very difficult. About the only thing that is easier now is weather predictions and the cost has plummeted.

But, Nepal just decided that you have to climb another 8000m peak before you can climb Everest. That will cut down on the number of people attempting.

I'm doing a list, and Everest is the last on it. Not sure I'll get to it before I'm too old to do it, but I hope I do. I'm still young, but it's an expensive list and not easy to take off for a month or more very often.

I know someone who's done K-2

Which is more difficult. K2 kills one climber for every four who summit.

K2 the Savage Mountain seems more of a challenge.

I'll do it first.

No, but I've had a much better much higher view of the earth than the summit of Everest. And my feet were on the ground

Yeah, it looks far more challenging. I watched something about it not too long ago. Seems K-2 is more challenging, Everest is just a benchmark.

Actually it isnt. That mountain is about standing on top of the world not technical difficulties.

I've never done Everest but I've done an expedition to the top of Driskill Mountain. I think a few more climbs and I'll be ready for Everest though.

Big wall climbing is cooler than mountaineering all day long.

My wife and I made it all the way to the top of clingman's dome. Most climbing experts will tell you it's the same as climbing Everest.

My cousin climbed it. At one point, he thought it was the end for him but luckily he made it back.

“Taking a trip for six months, you get in the rhythm of it. It feels like you can go on forever doing that. Climbing Everest is the ultimate and the opposite of that. Because you get these high-powered plastic surgeons and CEOs, and you know, they pay $80,000 and have Sherpas put the ladders in place and 8,000 feet of fixed ropes and you get to the camp and you don’t even have to lay out your sleeping bag. It’s already laid out with a chocolate mint on the top. The whole purpose of planning something like Everest is to effect some sort of spiritual and physical gain and if you compromise the process, you’re an a-hole when you start out and you’re an a-hole when you get back.”
