Never had a single issue the whole time I’ve been here until the day before I took a contract on my house (which they threatened to prevent - unlawfully, I might add). And it’s over something inside my house for over a decade... mind boggling. If fighting it costs me double what their “solution” costs, I’ll pay it and fight them strictly on principle.

Is what's inside your house visible from the outside?

If it can be seen from the curb then the HOA is in the right. If it can't be seen from the outside, then how the hell do they even know what the inside of you home looks like?

if you bought the house with no hoa, you should not have to respond to them unless you specifically signed over your right to be governed by it

Socialism, it like letting someone else paint you into a corner. By the time the paint dries and you walk out they have taken all your shite.

He didn't buy the house with no HOA though.

His post:
Really can’t air it out here until it is settled - but trust me, I WILL make an epic thread on it after it plays out.And I am moving in a few weeks and have my house under contract, and they are trying to enforce something indoors that has been that way for over a decade. And they are making threats that are far outside the Bylaws and trying to frick up my sale. And the board at the time it was done over a decade ago knew about it because they were all inside my house multiple times. Should be open and shut Liberative Prescription under Louisiana’s 2 year enforcement rule. It’s beyond ludicrous. Lawsuits will follow.

To get in trouble with a Slidell HOA I have to assume you’re cooking meth in a trailer on your front lawn and not offering to share.

In the end HOA’s win in the majority of cases. You lost when you bought your house.

So did he sign off on the HOA after the fact?

They only know because photos were posted while selling my house.Nothing changed on the outside.
Just spoke to the attorney and he literally laughed on the phone and was incredulous. Couldn’t believe they are trying to tell me what I can and can’t do with the inside of my house...or garage.

So it’s because you finished off the garage and put a pool table in there?

Who's the builder? The same thing happened in my current neighborhood and there was nothing that we could do.

My friend Richard Shorts. One call, that's all. If you can't go to him, he'll come to you. If he don't win, you don't pay. I was on my way to Hattiesburg and "BAM" I never got there. Richard got me $287,642.00. Richard got me my money.

Just put a skirt around your trailer like the sign says.

After living in a trailer park for part of my life and now dealing with an HOA myself, you don't know how true this is. HOAs are just high dollar brick house trailer parks.

So OP just confirmed he closed off his garage and made it into a pool room (better than sex dungeon that I guessed).

I have zero idea the neighborhood or how nice it is...but I know the neighborhood I live in, we can't close in our garage because in our HOA bylaws it says ALL houses must have a garage. We even have restrictions about how many cars can be int he driveway at one time (obviously here and there isn't a big deal). So I'm not sure if that's part of the issue? Did you close the garage and count the square feet to improve the listing on the house? SO MANY QUESTIONS!!

My neighbor built a bar in his garage. The door still opens though.

All will be answered in time. House was sold at accurate sq footage, not counting garage as living area, and consistent with the going rate per sq ft. No restriction saying you have to park in garage. Which is why the attorney got a good laugh at it. Restrictions merely say each house must have a double garage with a minimum sq footage. I do have a garage. I don’t park in it because I don’t want to. I secured the door because I don’t want to open it. I play pool in it because I want to play pool in my garage in my house. And I’ve been doing so for around 12 years - along with neighbors, many of whom were on the Board at the time.

My bet is he built an addition inside his garage. Roll the door down, no one knows. Probably was found out by his listing on the real estates sites. Covenant calls for 2 car garage, but won't hold any cars.

No “addition” - floating wood floor, pool table, bar. All reversible. Covenant does not say you have to park in your garage. I can do what I want in my garage. Attorney agrees.
