Anyone “hike” Red Bluff Canyon in MS?

Looking for alternatives to Clark Creek. This came up and seems like a worthy day trip. It’s a short drive from BR.
Could someone who has checked this place out tell me if it’s worth it?
Details show it’s only 1mi of moderate hiking

Yes I have, and some nice JEEP trails just south of Hattiesburg.
It was cold as shtt when I hiked it. Wasn't that much fun but was a decent time.

A fun hike is Black Creek Trail off Melvin Breland Rd near Wiggins, MS. Park right off the road, then head “south” on the trail. It will join up with the creek, and there’s a nice beach via a spur off the main trail. It’s just under 2 miles from where the trail crosses the road. We’ve overnighted here before, fun spot.

I said jeep because the trails got sort of tight. It was only for short wheel based vehicles.

As a side note, taking a party barge up the pearl river, or down, to see the river side of the canyon is kinda cool. Back when L&L hunting club in Angie was a big deal everyone had camps on the river. That was a pretty popular run when the river was up.

Absolutely worth it. Just a really weird, cool place that’s fairly easy to get to.

Been there many times since I was a kid; the last time was during the evacuation for Ida in 2021
What's wild to me is that I am old enough to have seen it change due to erosion. The original Hwy 587 that my dad used to bring us there in the late 1970s has mostly fallen into the expanding gorge; it was replaced with a new road some distance west:
Still, it is very nice and a lot of fun, especially for kids but old farts like me enjoy it, too:
There are trails along the edges that take you down to the bottom, where there is a small creek that leads to the Pearl River:
The small creek passes under a railroad line-- if you walk to the east along the tracks a short distance there are several railcars off on the side, a victim of a derailment many years ago:

I did it with my dog a couple of years ago when it was cool out. I thought it was definitely worth the day trip from BR. Pretty unique landscape for this area

I've hiked it many times. It's a pretty strenuous hike, especially in the hot summer months. I highly recommend going in the fall/winter and making sure you have a map of the route. It is very easy to get off path and get lost. Absolutely stunning place and well worth the trip. Be sure to explore the abandoned train. It is such a cool experience.

Take a kayak trip on the Amite River outside of Clinton at The Point and look for agates and driftwood.

Found the Red Bluffs by accident after hiking Percy Quinn SP
I wouldn't consider it a "Hike" but if you're in the area it's definitely worth a visit
There are two entrances... one highly publicized that I call the back entrance and a lesser know front entrance that you pass on the way to the main entrance. The front entrance gives you acccess to hike the old highway that is eroding away and falling into the canyon. That entrance may be well known now....my last trip there was around 8 years ago.

Standing on the edge of the highway that's slowly falling into the abyss we didn't realize until we were at the back entrance and could see with binoculars that there was only about 3 feet of soil holding up the edge of the highway where we were standing.

Just a BIG hole in the clay. But the colors are beautiful and the aesthetic is laid back. I didn't hike down to the river or bottom of canyon as I was with my old folk family. And it was very hot. Going back in the Fall. Definitely a good day trip.
