I was asked by a coworker to join his team in a local bar league. I've played before messing around at bars and I'm ok.

Anyone here play? Any recommendations on darts? Steel tip btw.

Inb4 darts is trashy

Seriously tho, you ever see the dart comps from England/Ireland on tv? Hilarious and very well attended.

A league here in Dallas does.
I'm pretty sure that's there's a league in Nola that does too.

It's a game only for elite athletes. Hope you are in good shape.

I'll look into those. I'm also looking at Target brand and Harrows. Found a great UK dart site that will ship to U.S. for like $3. Prices are much better too

I've never seen darts on tv. I'd mostly be playing to just hang out and drink beers at the bar during the week and socialize away from the wife. Not looking to go pro or anything...I enjoy darts more than pool.

When we were kids, my friends and I threw darts at each other. Does that count?

They have huge pubs, beer gardens packed with looks like 1,000 people all drunk cheering the dart players. Its cool to watch actually.....

Shooting Darts in a league is fun no doubt depending on class you start in. When you get up to the top most act like they are getting paid and it takes the fun out of the league atmosphere. Try different darts practicing with others before spending on a nice set. You will have 6 different darts thrown each week by others, find the set that you are comfortable with and practice, practice, practice.

Funny thing is...I've never seen it either....before last weekend...and then I noticed a new channel on Direct TV....and voila..there it was...

I watched it for like an hour.

I play in a local league here. Steel tip darts is kind of a dying thing; insurance, pool leagues, and electronic soft tip darts have really cut it down. Shreveport/Bossier leagues had dozens of teams from D-division to A, now so few play that divisions are combined. I personally bought and installed the dart boards, scoreboard, lights, and toe lines at the bar I frequent just so I'd have a decent place to practice. As far as equipment, I wouldn't spend much until you've gotten a good idea on weight and barrel style that suits how you throw. I have a set of 27gm Gold Widows as my main set and cheaper 27gm Unicorns as a backup/lend set. Get a good dart case though, if you start playing regularly you will need spare parts on hand.

If I had a league near me I would join again in a heartbeat. Its much more fun if you don't play in the "A" division because its a bit too serious. I played in a Little Rock league for 10 years and loved it.
