Yes.

It's awesome.

Do it.

the festival is one of the best I have ever been to, and the run itself is other-worldly fun.

Running of the Bulls in Nola was last weekend.... pretty low turnout. Think it has finally officially jumped the shark

It was just going this last week. 2 Americans got gored on day 2.

As to your question, I have to worm and give the bull in my sig pic shots every year. That's close enough for me.

Yea that was a light crowd compared to years past. I guess the weather probably didn't help.

I did about 5 years ago. The party that whole week is awesome and worth the trip itself.

About 90% of the people running never see a bull, they all run into the arena before the bulls are even in their area.

I bought a pic drom a local photographer of me running up a fence in the last turn with a bull horn a couple feet from my arse. My face looks like I need a new pair of drawers.

I've gone, the opening festival is a blast. Basically 24 hour sangria fest. Ran on the first day, not the whole track though. Only ran from after "Dead Man's Corner" on and into the stadium

ETA: Had a couple of close encounters with the bulls, but that wasn't the scariest part. At the entrance of the stadium, someone tripped and caused a huge human pile-up. It is so crowded that these type of events can quickly cause serious problems.. I was in the middle (on top of 2 people, 2ish on top) right at the entrance and in front of most of the bulls. Was terrified from the possibility of getting rammed from behind. Luckily made it out in time and only lost a shoe.

Pass.

I'd end up like Billy Crystal in City Slickers if I were lucky enough not to get trampled.

Some of my coworkers want to do it next year. I may do it, but I'm worried about how stupid I'll feel/look if I end up being one of the people who get injured.

I did it. It's incredibly exciting/scary. The partying that goes on in that city for that weekend is just incredible though. By the time the next race is starting, the bars are cleaning up from last night and ready to go for after the race.

You can find a similar adrenaline rush just by running through the streets of NOLA dodging bullets and muggers for a lot less money.

I ran last year with some friends. It was awesome but I think once is enough. I thought the run was better than the partying but I'd driven across France the day before so after the adrenaline from the run went away I crashed pretty hard. We started about half way down Estafeta so we were able to get about 300 yards of running in as the oxen and bulls came by before we got into the arena. People pushing you down is the biggest concern. When you have 6 bulls around, it's every man for himself and people tend to involuntarily tug or push people while they run making them fall down. The last place you want to be is on the ground because you'll get stepped on by people, an oxen, or a bull. My buddy got stomped by an oxen last year and created a huge pile up entering the arena because he fell and now there are pics of a 2k pound oxen stepping on his spine all over the Internet. He's ok though

Forgot to mention that they spray the roads down with soapy water about an hour before the run so it's like running on ice too

A couple of years ago, the Esquire channel did live broadcasts of the runnings each day (11:30 at night our time). The actual path only takes about 2 minutes for the bulls to get from start to finish. So over the 30 minute show, you got a lot of insight as to what it's all about.

Basically, it started out of necessity. The bulls were kept in one location and had to be run to the arena to fight that night. Each year, more and more people showed up and began running with them until it blew up into the spectacle you see today.

There are some different layers to it all as well. The bulls (Usually black, brindle or blue colored) only run it one day. The red and white spotted ones are steers that run it everyday. They know the route so that's why they are sent with the bulls.

So right there, it's more prestige to run with or be touching a wild bull vs. a more docile steer. If you can run along side one and get your hand on it's back you are doing pretty good. But the true glory comes in the form of "running on the horns". That's when you are leading a bull by running in between it's horn tips just a few feet ahead of him. Most guys that know what they are doing can only keep it up a few yards before they peel off.

The guy in yellow is "running on the horns in this pic...

Peeling off...

Different types of bulls (brands basically) run it every day. There's never a run where only oxen are running. It's always 6 oxen and 6 bulls. We ran with the Jose Escolar bulls last year.

I'm glad the bulls get to take out their aggression on darwin award candidates
