G.O.D. = Group Of Drunks. Let the meeting be your power if need be, group conscious is a lot better than a single alcoholics judgement.

Yes. Almost 5 years now. I actually started a thread on my way to rehab I had to medically detox off of alcohol. I was fricking miserable and couldn’t stop. Didn’t want to drink but I felt too bad when I didn’t. I broke that cycle and got help. I go to my home group meeting every week and have close friends in sobriety today. I still hangout with my friends that drink, I just don’t anymore. I can’t do it like a normal person. I tried for years. Best decision I ever made. Saved my marriage, career and had my first and last child at 40.

PJ, you don’t seem to post in the same manic posting style that you used to. It appears that quitting the bottle has given you more peace. Good for you man!

This right here. Doing it now. I dont like groups AA is not for me.
If you suddenly change to vodka for no good reason, especially cheap vodka, your about to enter a whole world of hurt and bodily destruction.

None of all this matters unless YOU want to stop. Do it for yourself and not for someone else. I’ve found out the hard way that when I was forced to stop it didnt work… I’m at 22 months now with zero meetings. For me it’s mind over matter. I quit this time for MY well being not to please someone else. Once the withdraws went away( about 2 months), the results of me staying sober started to unfold.. everyone started liking me again and it has saved my marriage and my relationship with my daughter and the grand kids… I thank the lord every night for giving me the strength to make it through that day sober. My life could not be better than it is right now. I’ve gained 90 lbs since I quit and am in great shape… for everyone out there, it’s fricking hard to do. I was drinking at 8 in the morning and was out of it by 3 and was unable to be there for my sick spouse. Now I am available 24/7…. Sorry post is do long…

First, there are some really inspirational stories on here and thanks for sharing especially with the occasional OT a-hole comments. I practice addiction medicine now and AA can be very helpful but you might have to go to a few different meetings before you find the right one. An example is a 70 year old Lady started going to an AA meeting near her house and she said it was OK. We talked and she was going to the Project Lazarus on St Claude. Good Group but the majority are LGBQT so we found her one at a church a little farther away that she has done well in.

Had a couple court-ordered meetings to go to in my early 20s. Made me realize quickly that I am not an alcoholic.

I guess misunderstood. I’m doing cheap vodka. Not AA.

I understand that. Did you go somewhere and get help, or do it by yourself?

Vodka was my poison. 7 years sober this past June. A sip of alcohol would wreck my life in 3 days max.
