I went to Palmetto in north Louisiana.

I first read about Palmetto a few years ago on here, in a multi page thread about sobriety on this board. Thanks.

you might have to go to a few different meetings before you find the right one.
Theres also the one meeting you go to that you'll remember the rest of your life. I was in El Paso the night after that WalMart shooting in 2019 - those people were REALLY struggling to get through it emotionally and I was just a jackass trucker that ubered to their meeting oblivious to what happened. I still credit them for showing me the strength to get through events like that because a few months later is when I was diagnosed and felt like my life had been knocked off the rails. Stayed sober through it all, I'm at 4.5 years sober now.

I'll have 4 months sober from alcohol in 5 days. And yes, I go to AA meetings

Glad to see you back at it. I know you were going through it when I was a few years ago.

This is actually a good sign you are.

What other form of treatment for a disease out there blames the patient when the medicine doesn't work?

Let's see... treatment for obesity, heart disease, physical therapy, etc. What do they have in common? It requires the patient to put in the effort to change their lifestyle.

Surprisingly you can do all those things without alcohol and still have fun… might even remember them

ow do you get through LSU football game days without drinking? My husband just quit drinking about 6 weeks ago. He's worried about game days. I think he'll do ok at home, but I feel like we'll never be able to actually go to a game again. He was a beer drinker, so I've stopped drinking beer around him for the time being. I may have 1-2 glasses of wine some evenings, but that's about it. I'm trying to be supportive, but it's definitely an eye openener as to how much of our social and recreational activities involved alcohol. Concerts, festivals, football season, going out to eat, grilling in the backyard, boating, etc.

There is a lot of social pressure to drink in the Rosary Belt.

If you aren't having a drink, a lot of people will ask you why or what is wrong with you.

Maybe your husband could drink a mocktail or just sip some soda water with lime? Since he likes beer, would he be interested in any Heineken 0.0 beers?

He may want to try non-alcoholic beers. I bought him some Liquid Death water since it's in a can and I thought it may ease the transition? I have no idea what I'm doing. He doesn't drink soft drinks, so those are out as an option.

He's been a heavy beer drinker for so long that everyone we know will notice if we're at a social function and he's not walking around with a beer. I don't think he cares what anyone else thinks, but I'm sure there will be plenty of questions and comments. It's just something he'll have to deal with when he's ready, I suppose.

I was an extremely seasoned social drinker who quit 18 months ago. I still have a tailgate and a social life. What is amazing is that most people really do not care if you are drinking. Most people who are curious, really are questioning their own drinking. Also, have your husband try Topa Chica. Liquid Death is fine, but for my money, Topa Chica is tops. Congrats to both of you.

Lagunitas makes a 0.0 beer too if he likes IPAs.

Although I don't have a drinking problem nor do I intend to quit, I would think having a cold drink in your hand that tastes like beer would make things easier. He can still cut up with the boys by the smoker or at the tailgate. He just won't be getting intoxicated.

I feel as if this is true. But even if I did care, if someone was sipping a 0.0 beer in a huggie I'd never notice nor ask about it unless I saw the can label.
