Lafayette should represent in this thread. I’ve seen more one eyed Willies since I moved here than ever before.

I have a worker with glaucoma and he can no longer see out of one of his eyes. It is swelling up so big it is actually sticking out of his face.

He is getting it removed as soon as he saves up some more money.

I am interested to read more from those of you who have experienced this, and thanks for your insight.

What was the cause of your removal?

Sorry to hear that COOT. A co-worker lost his eye about 6 years ago. He said he took him a year to really get use to it. The only problem is he can’t tell how deep something is.

I have glaucoma as well. My treatment is quite different than eye removal though

Many years ago my father-in-law had his right eye removed before radiation was done to skin cancer next to his eye. He was good to go before long and continued to drive and even pull a fifth wheel RV.

Good luck to your wife. She will adapt, I'm sure.

Actually it's my wife, she has a very rare eye infection, acanthamoeba keratitis and the doctor doesn't know if he can save her eye. We are going back to see him today. She has 60% thinning of her cornea. Doctor expects it to perforated in the next few days. Still haven't told our kids.

If your current doctor isn't a specialist...get to one ASAP.

My aunt saw a doctor in the Monroe area for several months longer than she should have.

Dang I hate that for your wife...thats a nasty infection. Once an eye is enucleated she may experieance some pain for s few weeks afterwards. They should put a conformer in the socket and will usually fit her for a prosthesis a few months out from the surgery. We don't do that kind of stuff where I work (we do mostly cataracts, glaucoma type surgeries) but take what I said with a grain of salt as it is from memory from surgeries a few years ago and things may be much different now. Prayers sent brother.

his eye is completed "blue'd out" (best I can explain it)

He is 100% blind in this eye.

Just got back from doctor. Her swelling has gone down and the thinning isn't as bad as yesterday. Will start back up on drops today. He was definitely more positive on treating the eye today than yesterday.

That is not a prosthetic eye.

I have an old eye injury that is causing my cornea to tear up my iris. Never knew about it until it became visible. The damn injury occurred 12 years ago. Eventually the eye will have to removed.
I've decided to put a ball bearing the socket, wear an eye patch and become a pirate..lol
