What is the surgery and recovery like? How long does it take before you are used to seeing with one eye and able to drive? Long term side effects?

I had my left eye removed in 2011. I'm all right now.

Actually it's my wife, she has a very rare eye infection, acanthamoeba keratitis and the doctor doesn't know if he can save her eye. We are going back to see him today. She has 60% thinning of her cornea. Doctor expects it to perforated in the next few days. Still haven't told our kids.

How long was your recovery? Did it take long before you were able to drive? Contemplating selling her car, so we have one less note

Probably a ways away from removing the eye. Probably looking at a cornea transplant rather than removal of eye.
If I were in your shoes, I would be seeing Thomas Hiegle at Eye Medical Center. Fantastic cornea specialist.

Doctor said there isn't enough cornea to connect the transplant to.

It's not so bad. At first I remember being pissed that I had just blown $3k on a 3D TV, but I felt a lot better when I went to the first prosthetic fitting, I was really excited when the doctor told me about the new plant based, organic models available. He asked if I wanted to try one on ad I couldn't resist shouting "would I!"

In all seriousness though, i have known people with only one eye (one since birth, one of which lost it around 19). There was a learning curve for driving but he was still able to.

Her uncle lost an eye a long time ago, but we haven't talked with him yet.

We do have a prominent(well he posts alot) poster with one.
He gets banned often for racism and is a fairly good writer. Figure it out. Meantime, I'll text him and tell him chime in.

I would still look in to getting a second opinion, just to make sure y’all are weighing all of the options. What would it hurt to have another corneal specialist take a look to confirm what NO Dr believes?
