I’d pay to get the computer test. I took it while on 10 mg of adderall and still failed. My son also took it. I think it helps distinguish whether a kid is just acting out or has an actual attention problem
Vyvanse is a great medicine. It doesn’t get kids high. Intuniv is a good med but is usually used in conjunction with a stimulant because it’s not that effective alone
I’ve been on adderall for almost 20 years. I may stop using it when I retire. But my brain does not work without it. A good book I read described add as driving in the rain and meds being wipers
My son has taken add meds since kindergarten. In preschool he had to sit behind the group in a chair during circle time with a mentally handicapped child because he couldn’t keep his hands to himself. Since being put on the meds he never once got sent to the office. He was still a very active kid with a good personality

My 8 year old struggles in the classroom. He’s a nice kid and very inquisitive but just can’t focus on the tests. Hard to get him to listen to instructions at recess and lunch. He is on some mild school day only meds that seem to help. Hoping he grows out of it.

Doctors to kids are like referees to the NFL.
Question for those that think this is the correct route. What if your 6 year old comes home from kindergarten 4/5 days with marks from school. You’ve already took him to the woodshed quite a few times and it just doesn’t work.
Do you continue to just keep beating him until he just straightened up? Beat him 4-7 days a week and confine this 6 year old to his room 6 out of the 7 days a week?

My 6yo conduct grades drastically improved after treatment form c-d to a-b. He never had an issue with his other grades but he finishes worksheets that he starts now.
Don't listen to the goobers in here, find an expert and go through the tests and options. Our pediatrician has three kids and has one with ADHD. It made for easy discussions and decisions.
If you do go the medicine route, just remember they all impact individuals differently. It will take trial and error to find the right fit. That was a tough time, but in the end you will find something that works and will see strong reaults.

The doctors diagnosed my kid with adhd and tried to put my kid on focalin
I found that “beltalin” worked better

Teachers are some of the worst about “prescribing” ADHD because little johhny won’t sit for 8 hours a day in a desk and not move.

Look, I’m no MD, but I can tell you from first hand experience: if they have real ADD/ADHD then getting them the proper medication will be life changing. I’ve suffered from it all my life, and even in my mid-30s taking medication is like a night and day change for the better.
Don’t let all the fricks in these threads tell you that it’s just normal, or you’re a lazy parent, or any of the other bullshite. If a doctor, a real doctor who specializes in this sort of thing, tells you that you should medicate the kid, then I’d suggest you do so.
Now, I’d warn you to expect some need to try different doses and types of meds. There’ll be odd mood swings and moments of lethargy until everything is sorted out. And also expect some pushback from some of his teachers and people in school - some will refuse to help the kid the way he’ll need it and some others will think you’re being a lazy parent (like some in this thread).
