Yeah ive kind of fallen on that side of the fence in general. Love some pound pups but my with my limited time and family size I feel like i need a solid genetic resume before I commit
I'd like to find a puppy before we move and most of the established breeders around Atl seem to be in the $2k range. Which seems nuts but not long term I guess

My wife’s (no pics) family had two of them. The eldest one was very protective of the family. It took about six months for her to get used to me. The younger one was just a big goofball. One of the dumbest dogs I’ve ever seen and a big, dopey sweetheart. The eldest one survived a bout with pavo and lived to age 13, which is pretty damn old for rottie. She hated fireworks and jet contrails. She ate bees. Ran potential burglars off at least twice. They were pretty good dogs.

If you are willing to spend 2k on a rottie then just get a show breed lab. At that price it isn’t even a discussion.

Tbh I thought anything with decent papers was 1500-2k. We're gonna be miles from nowhere in appling cty, Ga I just want something that holds the fort down no question and never firgets who his family is

I had one growing up and decided to get another one about 4 years ago. They're hands down the 2 best dogs that I've had. Both were/are extremely protective of our family and house/yard. I've got a 2 and 5 year old and he loves them like they were his own. When I have to head out of town for business I always sleep better knowing I've got my guy there holding the house down until I get back. I wouldn't home an adult rott, but raising one from a pup so all that they know is the family and you'll have a life long companion whose both loving and protective when he needs to be. Definitely recommend if you can provide a nurturing environment.

This. We have one that’s a year and a half old, 130 pounds. Never leaves my 9 year olds side. That’s his boy too. The dogs are scary smart. Loyal and protective. My wife had some trepidation initially but, like any dog, it’s in how you raise them.

Yeah full bred anything is gonna be expensive. But every breed has tendencies for different defects, health concerns, behavioral issues, etc. King Cavaliers are great family dogs with perfect personalities, but almost every one is going to have cardiac issues and cost you a fortune when they get old.
The rottie maybe be a great family dog for you if trained well. But it is very loyal so if you host people often or have your kids friends over then they can be a liability.
They are a working breed and need a job. Usually that protecting. Has it pros and cons. They are not usually very dog or people friendly.
They commonly have eye issues as well.

I've had 2 over the last 18 years. No doubt the best breed you can get. They were raised with my children and did nothing but protect them anytime it was needed. Do your research people rottweilers do bite but its rarely their own family. Dont try to go cheap and get one that's not well bred.

Have a friend in PA with his third. He had one as a child. The one I was around most was dexter. Didnt give a shite about anything going on around him. Big teddy bear

I have a male. He is a big ole baby. See the Mom and Dad. All in how you raise them. He is socialized, runs, roams, and plays with my Fila Brasileiros.
