The Toyota 2.2l is a non-interference engine so on one that old I would not change the belt again until it broke if it ever does. (I have seen OE ones go 300k in that engine and still be in one piece).

I've been meaning to check if it was non inteference or not.

Thanks

I had a 2005 that I sold in 2019 with 175k miles for $3500. I only sold it because my daughter wanted a new car so I bought her Honda.

My brother drove a 98 Camry for close to 300k if not more with little to no issues. I had another 98 with 200k that was taken by the flood, I miss that car it was my work commute vehicle.

I didn't want a sunroof really but it doesn't seem to leak yet

Looks in pretty good shape. I would flush all fluids, brake fluid, transmission, and coolant. Run a bottle of Lucas Fuel Injector cleaner with a tank of premium gas. Then would ride with a smile from ear to ear.

are these cars worthy of their reputation for being "bulletproof?"

100% true

it will go 500k miles if you change the oil regularly and drive like a normal person and not a teenager trying to race it. dont try to tear it up and it will last longer then you ever wanted it to

I have a 2000 Lexus ES which is the same car.

I bought it with 200k miles for dirt cheap and it is running pretty well. I have had to replace a few stuff but that is expected.

The model before that one was peak. This one, while still good, was de-contented and cheapened to separate it further from the lexus.

You could slap a lexus badge on a 1994 camry and no one would have been the wiser.

But I know a 90+ year old woman still driving one like yours. They are still really great.

Friend of the family has that exact car, color and everything with over 500k on it. True fricking story. It's a monster.

Years ago, I bought a '95 Camry (160k miles) off a friend for $1000 because I needed a car and couldn't afford to finance anything. They told me it still ran great and was in good condition. Wife and I drove 2 hours to pick this thing up, soon as dude hands me the keys he says "Yeah be careful with the brakes, they're totally shot."

This fricking thing. I wasn't really in a position to say No, so I baby it back home. Take it to Midas or whatever - $700 brake job. Figure okay, nearly doubled the price, but whatever. Drive it a few months. Squeaking noise from the suspension, took it to the stealership (this story shouldn't need more clarification about me being young and dumb), when I came by to check on it, the poor lady in service looked like she was telling me someone had died.

Shocks bad
Brushings bad
Tie Rod End bad
1 control arm snapped in half

They told me the head service guy was scared to drive it around the parking lot and they didn't feel comfortable doing piecemeal work on it because the car was a death trap, the front passenger tire could literally shoot off at any second.

Ended up selling it to CarMax for $100. It was a real shame too, because the engine, transmission, interior and exterior were all still great.

Got a lexus with 133,000 miles in pristine condition once. Didn't have a major repair until I was well over 200,000 miles.

117k original miles, nothing wrong with it except the washer fluid reservoir leaks.

Exterior door handles are prone to breaking.
I drove one from 190k to around 230k. I paid $1000 for the car in 2010.
I replaced the timing belt/chain after it broke around 220k and then blew the head gasket which would have cost the value of the car to replace at that time (about the price of yours was my quote).
It leaked a little bit of oil, but I topped it off and changed it around every 5000 miles.
Otherwise, I loved that car and have very few negative things to say about it. I drove my longest distance without stopping in that car: 504 miles from Baton Rouge to North Atlanta (on the way to Athens).

This, I traded in my 2016 QX70S for a Honda Accord.

Had the car for 2 months. Filled up the tank once. (WFH)

I had a shite car in college. The women that are worth won’t give a damn. My shite made a humming vibrating sound like my engine would explode. Real women are not concerned with a bitch without a plan.

I have a much nicer car now. My output fell.

Give it up for the real women
