Toyota/ Lexus anything that has been maintained is always a good bet for 200,000 minimum

That’s crazy low mileage for a 97, if it was taken care of at all (which it sounds like it was), that thing will continue to last you and be a great car for years to come.

It seems like it was, the paint isn't even peeling which is pretty common on even newer models of those cars it seems.

I dated a girl who drove one of these when I was in college.

Pros:
- Reliable
- Affordable (relativity)
- Hold their value

Cons:
- Driver seat doesn’t lean all of the way back which causes you to accidentally step on the gas pedal if you’re having sexy time.

My son is driving a 1999 Camry with 40,000 miles on it.

It was his grandma's car driven to church on Sunday.

Toyota really does make great vehicles

I agree - except my mom’s 2008 Corolla was a hunk of junk and she took good care of it.

The only Toyota we had trouble with.

Good buy. It should run another 100,000 easily.

I sold mine last year. 97 with 91k miles on it. Looked exactly like yours without the sunroof. It was my grandparents. Drove it for 2 years. I bought my uncle's ridgeline and didn't have room for 4 cars so it was the easiest to get rid of quickly. Sold it to a friend of mine. Probably should have kept it.

Wife had an '01 back in college. Never did any major maintenance on it, and she was hard on it.

It is the 2.2 4 cylinder.

Previous owner said they changed the timing belt at 90k.

The Toyota 2.2l is a non-interference engine so on one that old I would not change the belt again until it broke if it ever does. (I have seen OE ones go 300k in that engine and still be in one piece).

I had a mid 80s Camry I drove well into the 2000s. Mechanically that car was immortal.

That’s unfortunate, all you can do is play the odds. Never know for sure

I had a 96 Avalon (same engine design as V6 camry. Indestructible road warrior. I sold it with over 300K miles and only did maintenance. Timing belts, plugs, filters coolant, tranny fluid. It just rolled and ran great.

It was overall the best vehicle I ever owned.

Exactly - I’d still buy a Toyota in the future.

Not sure if I’d buy another Corolla.

Had a 99 I paid 8200 for at auction in 2003. Sold it in 06 for 7500. Drove a car for 3 years for $700, excluding gas and oil changes.

No ragrets.

I'll tell you this much... I've worked in plants for 20 years. The smartest engineers(and usually earn in the top 10% of salaried employees) almost always drive something just like this. The exceptions were employees who live close to plant or receive a vehicle allowance.

Very Smart Move.
