Yukon or Tahoe ? Lmao. Those two aren’t in the same class as QX80.
For the money on a luxury vehicle you can’t go wrong on the qx80. Wife loves it... great on road trips.

Looks ugly to me.

But I'm sure it's a good vehicle. I much prefer the GMC Denali.

Yukon Denali or an LTZ Tahoe are very comparable to the QX80

I did and the prior version - QX 56. Ridiculously nice ride. n Shitty mpg, but a lot of great features and super smooth ride. The rear captains chairs were awesome

Those are pretty fricking ugly, as well as the Lexus SUVs.

I much prefer the Armada to the QX80.

In that class I'd go with the Yukon Denali probably.

They actually shifted the Armada to the QX80 platform.

Checking out the wiki pages for both the Armada and the QX80 they used to be made in Mississippi. Then they brought them back to be manufactured in Japan on the Patrol platform (over different model years).

Speaking from experience of owning a Japanese made SUV (4Runner), I bet these new trucks are going to have great longevity. That was the main reason we went with a Sequoia.

I was trying to find the joke/story I heard a long time ago about Japanese manufacturing. It was something like this:

quote:

David, a frequent visitor to Japan, explained to me the Japanese attitude to perfection....According to David: IBM, the American computer giant, had decided to test Japanese manufacturing capabilities by placing a trial order for some computer component. In the specifications IBM had spelt out that they would accept only three defective parts per 10,000. This had stressed the Japanese manufacturer... How? Why? On the exact date of delivery, the parts arrived at the doorstep of IBM. The shipment was accompanied with a hand written letter: “We Japanese people have had a very difficult time understanding IBM business practices, etc, etc, etc...However, with great difficulty, the three defective parts per 10,000 have been separately manufactured. They have been included in the consignment in a separate packaging, with bold instructions – DEFECTIVE PIECES, AS PER REQUIREMENT. NOT FOR USE. We hope this pleases you.”

So you can basically only get a Mercedes (and I doubt you get it for 70k)? BMW, Porsche, Audi etc. don't make a full sized/larger SUV that is in the same class as the QX80 that I can think of off the top of my head

That's the problem. There is less than a handful of full size luxury SUVs. If it doesn't have captains chairs without a center console or with a removable center console, its not full size.

It rides nice and has lots of room.
Not sure it would be my pick but I am sure it will be reliable.

I have a 2015. It's built on the Nissan Patrol, which is a massive off road vehicle designed for the sheiks in the Middle east and the rich in Australia. The new Armada is the old Patrol. The Patrol has been around for decades but never sold in the USA until now. That is why owning the QX80 was awesome, because you had a dressed up Patrol. Now that it is sold as an Armada, I would not recommend the QX. Instead of investing in designing a new vehicle to compete with the Yukon and 2018 Expedition, they half assed it and rebadged a vehicle introduced in 2010.

The good: floats on the road, potholes are no match for it, Smooth and powerful engine, spacious back seat, built in Japan...not by a lazy American union worker, designed for heavy duty off road use. Luxury features for much less than an Escalade or Navigator. I like the infotainment system better than my Ford touch. Exceptional service at a luxury dealership for lower prices when compared to Volvo, Mercedes, and BMW. If you value time, they provide loaner cars, shuttles, etc.

The bad: Poor design for modern Americans regarding drinks and smart devices. The technology is way behind competitors and is almost archaic. The adaptive cruise control in my Ford reacts better. Besides the headlights and taillights, no lights inside are LED, which is standard for luxury vehicles. Gas mileage is worse compared to competitors.

My opinion: check out the 2018 Navigator. I would go that route. It's a $10K price increase, but you will have a much better vehicle with modern features. The 2018 QX was updated to fool people for a few more years until they introduce a redesign. It's a good vehicle but it's not up to date with the times.

That is my wife's exact Armada. The only difference that I have figured out between that and the QX80 is the captains chairs in the 2nd row which we didn't need with a 4 year old.

LX and LC are great vehicles but I couldn't get past the archaic 3rd row configuration.

rented one when i went to California. It had cameras and sensors all around it to prevent you from running into things. You probably need it because it is hard as shite to see out of that thing. It was super nice though. im not an SUV guy because i dont like all the blindspots, but this was a very nice vehicle.
