And who builds them in the baton rouge area?

I've been drawing up our kitchen and saving pictures, I'm leaning toward stainless tops and Lexan backsplashes.

I realize stainless scratches, but I'm obsessed with cleanliness when cooking.

Scratches too easily, promoting bacterial growth.

You'll be cleaning that shite 10 times a day or it's going to look terrible.

We have granite in our little house now and I just can't do stone anymore.

It's either going to be butcher block or stainless. Stainless is considerably more maintenance free

I'm experienced with it from working in restaurants. No way in hell I'd want it in my home personally.

If you are a neat freak I doubt you'd want it, it's very hard to get to look clean. It fingerprints and what not, kinda like glass but not as bad. A stone type of countertop you wipe it clean and you are done. Stainless you have to clean it perfectly to look good.

I have seen bead blasted stainless which seems to eliminate the printing issue. The scratches are the downside.... Definitely.

This is correct. Stainless appliances never look clean. Fingerprints and general day to day will always look filthy on stainless steel.

Cayards did my kitchen countertop after the flood. I love mine. Scratches easily, but adds to the look/patina to me. A little harder to clean but doesn't take too terribly much. I would do them again for sure.

Do mixed surfaces. Stainless around the sink, butcher in the food prep, show pieces on the eating areas.

Change it up. Find a unique epoxy resin base pattern and enjoy.

Can you offer any input on pricing? Did you do tops and structure or just tops?

We did this. Matte black granite counter with a bar height butcher block island.

I'll have to search my receipt pile to see what it cost. I just did the top, but wish I would have had them run a 4" backsplash like you see in commercial kitchens. I essentially bought a full sheet and then they cut and built it to my counter top. I measured out and cut the countertop form on 3/4" plywood and they wrapped it. If I remember correctly it was around the same cost of the butcher block. $75 a sq ft, but don't hold me to that number.

I redid my garage last year with high end garage cabinetry and stainless counter. Don’t. Do it. I wish I would have covered it with clear vinyl from the first day. I had a bottle of wheel cleaner leak and ruined the top.

Butcher Block Formica is where it’s at.
Easy to clean and scratch resistant.

Just put some in.

My mom has stainless around her cooktop and granite elsewhere.

The stainless is 25 years old and while it is scratched, I don't really notice it.

Shs just wipes it down like normal. It's not more to maintain than any other counter top.

That's what I have and until three years ago I would have agreed with you. I really hate the spray on stainless cleaner that doesn't.

BUT. ! I started using ammonia in water to wipe down stainless surfaces. If something is stuck on the range top, I use hot water on it...cuts into food most excellently. The refrigerator fronts that seemed to get fingerprints when no one had been in the room: not only does ammonia water clean them, but I seem to have a lot less cleaning to do by cleaning the surfaces squeaky clean. (audibly squeeky).

Anyway, you might like the job real ammonia in water does, much more so than any of the name cleaners that I have tried.
