By experience I mean are they as sucky as they sound? I'm needing something to furnish a living room. Won't be here for more than a year so something in the $300-$400 range.

My wife and I just sold our old couch on-line since we're upgrading.

We had sex on the old couch if that's what you're asking.

I've learned that there is a big difference between the bottom tier and middle tier of couches but not much of one between the middle and really expensive ones

I bought a couch in a box right after the divorce. It's lasted me 5 years, but not the best quality in the world. The material has held up very well. I've had to repair the frame a few times. Cheap wood on the inside frame has cracked a few times.

Loveseat and a sofa on Wayfair.com for $700.

We recently bought some Lazy Boy couches to upgrade our old stuff. We had a couch from Ashley that we've had for years. Not the most comfortable but it has held up fine. Around $500 I think.

Facebook Marketplace or a thrift store.

Anything new and cheap will either be uncomfortable as hell and/or will break within a year.

Yes, you can find some great deals on used couches on Facebook Marketplace. We bought a leather sectional for our basement there for $400. They had originally listed it for $800 but had to keep marking it down because they had no interest. She said they paid over $3000 for it new. It was only 3 or 4 years old.

Just go to Costco and get a couple zero gravity chairs.

I bought a cheap couch from Rooms to Go, it was a disaster and I threw it on the curb after less than 2 years.

Then I saw someone I knew who had a relative selling one at an estate sale, got a nice leather sectional for $500. Was 2 years old and barely used.

Something old and solid is better than something cheap and new. You can always throw a cover on it if you need to.
