Anyone have any experience with a player piano?

My wife wants to get a piano (definitely not new) for the house but we are debating on different types. Ive always enjoyed a player piano ever since I was young, but she woukd rather a regular upright. She’s worried that if the player piano has issues itll be hard to get parts and expensive to fix. Anyone have experience good or bad with a player piano?

My aunt had one when I was little. It was pretty cool. That's all I got.

When I lived in Texas the V.A. I went to had a Yamaha Disklavier Piano in the entrance. It was amazing.
I was at the V.A. a lot during that time and the piano was always on an playing, never saw it down once.

Would you say someone who knows a piano player is fond of the pianist?

We have one.... had it for about 20 years. I bought the piano with the player as insurance. No one plays... some in the family said they would learn..never really did.
When we use it, it is cool...but we rarely use it..now it is an expensive piece of furniture.
I would get one on the secondary market...installing the player was like 4k. No return on investment.
It hasn't broken, that's a good thing. It plays floppy's lol.

At least get one with the Bluetooth controls so you can control it from your phone.

I know someone who has a Yamaha, and it’s incredible. It can even “sync up” with live concerts going on around the world and play exactly what is being played live. Not all concerts obviously. It’s certain shows that Yamaha is involved with.
It’s all via wireless internet. The music library for this thing is infinite. I’m sure it cost a fortune, but this dude is an extreme audiophile and has DEEP pockets.

Yamaha Disklavier is the way to go. They've got uprights and grands with the servo drive keys. Yamaha is solid. I'd go for a used one, the new prices on these are insane.
The Disklavier system has been around a long time and should be easy to get serviced. I've known a few people with them as well as the ones in the music school at UCF and never have heard of problems. I don't think they get much use though, people have these things play for holidays and the occasional dinner party. Maybe 5 nights of use a year, so most aren't high mileage.

I have a 1920 Kimball Upright Greek Revival Player Piano.
It was my grandfather's. My kids will begin taking lessons on it next year.
I have to have the vacuum system repaired in order for it to play itself, but its fine for them to learn on.

The one we looked at last night was built in the late 40’s. Other than one key that didnt work and badly needing to be tuned, the piano seemed fine to me. And the kids were in awe since it was the first time they saw a piano play itself.
Theres no way I am getting a yamaha player right now. Especially without knowing that the kids will stick with wanting to play. Im looking to spend about 1k tops right now. Now if they stick with it, sure I’d have no problem buying a nicer piano. Itd sure as hell be cheaper than what we pay for two girls in gymnastics thats for sure.

I've seen Billy Joel in concert several times. What are your questions?

Nowadays electric pianos give you piano sound plus many instruments, many recorded piano classics, so it can act as a player piano or a piano. You can record tracks. Yamaha.
Check it out.
Huge range in price out there.
From kid stuff to professional.
You can try them out and then buy used.

I had a friend who asked me to move a piano once. I haven’t spoken to him since
