He’s out of surgery. Lost a finger and a half of two other fingers. He’s lucky.

Had a whole box full of fireworks. Leaned down and the punk(sp) fell in and lit every single one of them almost at the same time. It was so much that 3 neighbors walked over and said that was the best sounding firework display they'd heard. Like $300 in fireworks

Had a patient blow three of his fingers off and really mess up his hand with a mortar shell. A little girl standing near by came in later with a hole in her leg... with two of the guys fingers. He had hepatitis C. Yikes.

Wait, so y'all found the guys fingers inside the hole in her leg? Like you're telling me that his fingers were blown off with such force that they embedded themselves in another person's flesh?

Had something like that happen when I was little. My parent's would always get a bunch of fireworks for me, my brother, and my sister. One time, I set off a bottle rocket that ended up being a dud. Instead of going up, it went sideways into my brother's pile of fireworks and set them all off at once like that.

I got hit with a piece of a 2x4 at a professional fireworks show. There was an explosion and I was sitting 200 yards away, only person out of 10,000 there that got hit with something. Got 7 stitches on the top of my knee.

I’d say the most tragic was this firework plant blowing up in Mexico.

That shite is made in China and often doesn’t work like it should.

THIS.

For the last 4 years I put on a pretty big show at my in-laws for family and friends. We've built several mortar racks, do extensive fusing, etc. The finale I usually set off 120 mortars (the good ones like Excalibur) within 30 seconds along with some other feature stuff...pretty decent homemade show.

Anyway, last year I didn't get time to shop up here at my house so decided to just buy down there when we went down for the 4th. Of course, the place I went didn't have what I needed so went to some other place that was a Black Cat distributor.

Set everything up out in the field, about 10 teenagers sitting about 75 feet from the racks, about 40 friends and family up on and around the porch, a good 50 yards back. Start lighting some of the racks and there's just a ton of duds...shite is blowing up in my fricking mortar tubes.

The racks are secure so we continue and make sure no one is close to the racks. Next thing I know, we set off a 12mortar rack and the fricking thing flips over after another dud blew up in the tube...there was a guy helping me set-up and he put the rack down backwards so when it fell, it pointed at people.

One firework shot just past my son's head and right at the bigger crowd, blowing up under the porch. No one was hurt but that shite freaked me out.

NEVER trust fireworks. Anticipate failure and how you're set up to make sure that failure can't hurt anyone.

ETA: frick, that came out longer than I anticipated. TL;DR, cheap chinese fireworks aren't reliable.

About 20 years ago, two guys from my hometown bought $500 worth of sparklers. One died, the other lost part of his leg.

When my older brother was about 8 years old, he took a roman candle around the side of the house and lit it by himself. He thought it was done and looked down the tube and got a shot right in the eye.

The tragedy is that that a-hole ended up with better than 20/20 in that eye and I was in glasses by the time I was in kindergarten. He gave me tons of shite as a kid and I never did anything dumb with my eyes.

I work with a guy who blew is forefinger off last July. There are times he has done things at work where he says. I sure do miss that damn finger.
