My grandfather had one as a result of a WW2 injury. He died before I was born. We had one of his glass eyes and I remember holding it when I was a kid. It was in a small chest on my dad’s desk.

The chest was stolen when our house was broken into many years ago. I always wondered what the reaction was when the thief opened it up and saw a glass eye staring at him.

Yes, my favorite uncle was injured back in '75, agricultural accident. Hydraulic hose end broke off the implement, swung around & hit unc in the face, shattering bones, losing his eye, rendering him unconsious. Lucky to still be above ground for sure...

One of my favorite childhood memories was my Great Grandfather's glass eye starting to fall out at Christmas probably 30 years ago as he was stirring the Christmas Gumbo. My aunt noticed and made a dive just in time to knock it off its path for the gumbo and it hit off the rim of pot and onto the floor. She just barely saved our meal.

Played rugby with a dude that had one after getting a bottle smashed on him during a bar fight.

During our post match drinkups you’d have to have your head on swivel…he’d walk around and if he dropped his glass eye in your drink you had to chug. fricking nasty.

That’s awful. My best friend growing up got shot in the stomach with a pellet gun by a mutual friend of ours horsing around. Thought the gun was empty.

Pellet ended up near his spine and almost paralyzed him. It was very touch and go during the surgery to remove the pellet.

My next door neighbor.. Well his wife, I talk to him, but he told me about it before. I just know she takes it out at night. She is older so they might look less obvious, but only one of her eyes move so you can tell something is off.

I have no idea if stuff gets inside the eye hole.

Played poker several times with a dude in Bossier that had one. He was in the World Series final table one year on TV. If you were in a tight hand with him, he would pop the eye out and sit it on the table so it was looking at you.

I was going to ask the same thing. Hell a 22 round would be hard pressed to penetrate that far.

I know someone who recently acquired one.

Decently cute girl dating a police officer of all things. He beat her one night so bad she lost her eye.

First time I saw her afterward it was sewn shut while she was waiting on a fake eye. That alone will freak you out seeing someone's eye sewn shut. Like you could see the stiches through and over the eye lids. Like a really convincing halloween make up job, but it wasn't October.

Then she got the fake eye and of course it doesn't move like the good one, so that was odd.

About the third time I ran into her I told her how horrible it was she was going through that, and I was sorry it happened. All cool now.

Close one eye for 30 seconds and imagine having your vision altered like that for the rest of your life in an instant.

Oh yeah, the cop is in prison where he belongs.

Another guy I used to hunt with had one. He was 9 years old and his dad was skinning a deer and would jab the knife in a tree the deer was hanging from when he needed both hands to pull the hide. Well, the dad was distracted and the little boy was on his tippy toes trying to reach the knife but could barely touch it. It finally came loose and hit him right in the eye. Another one gone in an instant.

The cool part was we shared a duck blind a few years on a lease and he was great to hunt with. His depth perception was shite so his shooting was not good. I got to shoot a lot of ducks and geese that year,
