Dude, you're a hipster. You're contrarian (and different) for the sake of it. You're just in disguise as a "mid-forties dork engineer".

It may be hard to find or unique in some strange way, but it's so plain that no one would ever notice why it's unique.
If I explained why I have the things I do and what makes them unique it would be nauseating to people...but that's why I torture y'all with this crap. I'm mostly a barfly...and none of my friends want or care to know what makes my completely normal looking shite unique.
Not sure if I understand all of this. I do think there is something to be said for having a style. I actually like the looks of the Pioneer that you posted, but that first one is God awful.

Well show me a cool-to-you wallet.
I don't get wallets to be cool. I have a traditional, brown leather wallet.
Mine is very similar to this. They get a good bit darker over time with age:

Yea, the recycled racing sail wallet is cooler said than its actual implementation. The things that make it great for a sail don't necessarily make it great for a wallet...it's coming apart and now looks even shittier:

About 3 years ago, I got the bug to go to as slim of a wallet as I could. I settled on Slimfold... I suspect your Pioneer ripstop is similar to this, since Slimfold is made of a very thin, durable fabric which supposedly has been tested to survive a 70mph crash on pavement (I guess that means tear resistant?)
Slimfold
I linked the one I have. This larger one fits easily into the back pocket of suit pants and most jeans. I've noticed a trend in some modern jeans where they have shorter pockets-- front & back. Because I bought a taller wallet, in these jeans the wallet is flush with the top instead of being totally recessed... not a huge deal, except I do get a little paranoid if I'm getting on a crowded subway (I'm in NYC) as I don't want to attract pickpockets. The easy solution would be to get one of the smaller models on the site I linked.
My review: holds up well. 3 years in, only sign of wear is a very small amount of residual dust/dirt on the inside getting caught between the fibers. And the Slimfold branding on the inside is a little worn. Otherwise, looks brand new from outside. I haven't noticed the material causing fraying on pockets of my jeans or slacks.
Also, if you zoom in on the website pics of the credit card slots, you'll see they cut a slit in the material to allow the card to be inserted. I believe this was an intentional choice to reduce thickness. I had concern the fabric would stretch and these slots would become loose, but 3 years in and they hold cards just fine. Nothing falls out.
My wife was kind of meh on me for going away from classic leather for the reason you stated... seems a little less mature. But I'm closer to 50 yrs old than 40 and have been married for close to 20 yrs. So, I'm not concerned how women might view it. I just wanted a thin wallet, and it's plain black so doesn't draw much attention anyway. I think maybe one friend in a bar noticed and asked what it was when I pulled it out to pay a bar tab.
eta: the additional commentary in this thread about your engineering background, etc... reminded me of a very old thread of yours. I remember you needed to buy a laptop and specs were leading you to buy an MSI gaming laptop (was better for your engineering/modeling apps.). Not to hijack, but curious how that laptop has been holding up?

Their Tyvek ones are cool. (not that owning said Tyvek wallet would make one 'cool')

Old school rubber band wallet is always a classic and a sign a person may have grown up around a racetrack.
No cost to buy
Easily replaced when it wears out
Kept in your front pants pocket, almost impossible to pickpocket*
1 size fits all
The rubber from the band creates friction when removed and since it is near a sensitive area, the it moves up you notice it happening.

I use a mini alligator clip. Get them from work. One for cards. One for cash.

I'd imagine the tyvek works just fine. Not sure if they'd hold up as well as the soft shell... then again, they're cheaper, so easy enough to replace sooner without feeling you didn't get your money's worth.
(and I edited my post above... I think after you replied... to ask how your MSI laptop was holding up. I had been looking at MSI when you happened to post your thread about getting one a long while back, so it sort of stuck in my mind and I just remembered.)

OK. The battery doesn't last long enough, but kind of what you'd expect from a gaming computer. It runs Revit just fine.

I use this Front pocket wallet from Orvis. Sitting on a wallet all day long is terrible on your back especially if youre rolling around with fat stacks.

No complaints except battery life is a reasonable review for my purposes.

Where do you put your phone and keys?

Why would someone sit on their wallet all day?

Crocodile Cash Cover
I got one of these a couple of months ago, and I love it. It's slim, but has more than enough room for cash and cards.

Phone right front, keys and wallet left front.

Man-up and order a Saddleback that you'll have til you die.
