There are very few trucks on the used market.
They are going for stupid money.
Doesn’t make sense to me though. When used trucks are the same price as new then why is there any demand for used?

Sounds like inflation to me boys.

What the frick
seriously.
My grandfather paid $29,000 for that truck brand new in late 2012. When they offered that I jumped.
That was the third dealer to give me an offer. Lowest of the 3 was $16,000.

Because there aren't a ton of new trucks on lots either. There is a major computer chip shortage because of shut downs last year. No one can get very many products with that amount of electronic components out the door right now.
PC and PC parts manufacturers are having similar issues.
I wanted to order the truck I bought so I could get all of the features I wanted, but the wait was 8 months to a year. For a fricking Jeep Gladiator. So I bought the closest thing on the lot because I couldn't wait that long.

I purchased my 2016 Silverado 18 months ago for $36k and traded it in 3 months ago. Got $37k trade-in and the dealer sold it a week later for $39k.

Wonder if chip issues are contributing to there being zero new outboards available?

One of the dealerships I visited said that there are plenty of trucks, but no computers. They said a factory in China burned, and they were responsible for 15% of the chips for the world’s market
ETA: I was glad to get rid of my F-150. Last time I had something break in the A/C, I had them print my service history- they said the replaced every part but the condenser in that A/C unit. For a truck that only had 80,000 miles, I was glad to get rid of it

According to some of these threads, the demand is apparently so high that used cars now cost more than new ones.

Back in December I traded in my 2017 sr5 4wd tacoma and got 500 more than I paid for it 2 years earlier. I went in there asking for that and they didn't flinch. Should've asked for more.

Damn, my 2012 Tundra that they offered me 9K for over a year ago, and carvanna says they'll give me 16K for it now. I'm checking Texas Direct Auto and Carmax, and high bidder gets it.
I've been saving for the down-payment on some acreage out west of Houston, and this gets me there.

Heck I’d sell my 2014 GMC 1500 but looks like I wouldn’t be able to find another truck.

I rode through the local Toyota dealership lot earlier in the week and they had not 1 truck on the lot.I didn’t ride through the used car side, didn’t think about it.I’m not in the market for a truck right now.

Mine is a 2016 Sierra with 21,00 miles in immaculate condition.
Thought the same leaned to getting new but also like having no note.

I'm glad I got mine a few years back. It's insane now.

Drove my dad to Raleigh NC the other day to get a new Chevy 3500 dump truck, none were available in the GA/AL/FL area. Dealer said it was the chip issue you mentioned...

Wonder what I could get for my 2017 F-250 with 50k miles? It’s paid off and I can use the old 1999 F-250 farm truck until hunting season.
